PFL 2 took place on Thursday at the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas. In which for the first time this year featherweight and heavyweight are working.
The match between 2021 heavyweight champion Bruno Henrique Cappellozza and Englishman Stuart Austin on April 28 is serving as the headliner for the second regular season card of the Professional Fighters League.
All 10 featherweights will be in action in PFL 2, but current champion Movlid Khaybulaev will not join them due to injury, meaning a new champion will be crowned in 2022.
The action doesn't end there. In addition, 10 heavyweights will be seen in action in PFL 2, including defending champion Bruno Cappellozza. The Brazilian title holder took a 4-0 lead with three knockouts last season before winning a wild unanimous decision to claim a 1 million prize in the final rematch against Ante Delija. Cappellozza begins his title defense with a headliner against Stuart Austin, who fought only once in 2021 and was knocked out by Renan Ferreira in 31 seconds.
Cappellozza enjoyed a 4-0 2021 campaign in the PFL, ending his championship last October with a five-round decision against Delija in the final event of the promotion. The 32-year-old Brazilian has won seven of eight fights in 2016, his only defeat being against UFC lightweight heavyweight Jiri Prochazka.
Austin made his PFL debut last August, when he suffered a 31-second knockout defeat to Ferreira. He snatched a two-time winning streak for the former Elite MMA Championship title holder. Known as the 34-year-old "He-Man", he owns a 15-7 career mark, including notable victories over Tom Spaniel and Satoshi Ishii.
The other two heavyweight pairs are out of the main draw, as Ante Delija meets Matheus Scheffel while Renan Ferreira faces Jamelle Jones.
The evening begins with the following six contests on the starting card: Lance Palmer vs. Chris Wade at featherweight; Bubba Jenkins vs. Sung Bin Jo at featherweight; Denis Goltsov vs. Sam Kei at heavyweight; Ali Isaev vs. Klidson Abreu at heavyweight; Sheymon Moraes vs. Boston Salmon at featherweight and Alejandro Flores Garcia vs. Saba Bolaghi at featherweight.
