The year 2022 has been a quiet a ride rollercoaster ride for the former champion Adriano Moraes. He achieved another milestone when Moraes defeated one of the best flyweights in the world Demetrious Johnson back in April 2021. He was the first one to beat Might Mouse inside the cage.
After once having the title successfully defending his title against Yuya Wakamatsu, Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson were matched up again for the second time in August 2022. This time, Might Mouse backed up the loss with a furious flying knee and won via knockout, dragging the Brazilian off the winning path.
Moraes discussed the defeat in an interview with ONE Championship, saying:
“It was a big loss for my career. I learned a lot from that defeat. Especially because sharing the cage with one of the best fighters in the world is always a great learning experience. I always like to say that we earn a lot and learn a lot. So, my biggest lesson is that no matter how much we get beaten up inside the cage, life will definitely hit harder. So, we always have to be prepared.”
Now that both the Brazilian and "Mighty Mouse" have defeated the other once. Adriano Moraes is appreciative of how the quick trilogy matchup versus Demetrious Johnson has been awarded to him.
The 34-year-old former flyweight world champion expressed the following in an appearance with ONE Championship regarding the opportunity to win back the title:
“Making this trilogy means a lot to me. It’s an honor for me to be able to make history in MMA facing an athlete like Demetrious Johnson – an athlete I never imagined I would face, and now I’m going to fight him for the third time. It’s very rewarding to have this opportunity, and I’m very happy to be doing this trilogy against one of the best fighters in the world.”
Demetrious Johnson is the legend of the game and belongs to the list of greatest MMA fighters of all time. Although it won’t be a tough task for the American, Adriano will be keen to go all out and extract a win out of nowhere so that he could make his mark and add another important victory to his living legacy.
