Adriano Moraes Submits Danny Kingad with Guillotine, Eyes Potential Title Bout in ONE Flyweight Division
Adriano Moraes

At ONE 169 in Bangkok's Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, former ONE Championship flyweight titleholder Adriano Moraes showcased his skills, returning to the win column with a decisive submission victory over Danny Kingad. In his first fight of 2024, Moraes (21-5) delivered a strong performance, securing a guillotine choke at 4:14 of Round 2 to claim his 15th career finish.

The opening round saw Kingad (15-5) make things challenging for Moraes, using grappling to keep the former champ grounded and limiting his offensive opportunities. However, the second round opened up as both fighters stayed on their feet for longer stretches, allowing Moraes to find his momentum and timing. With an impressive burst of action, Moraes transitioned into an arm-in guillotine, taking Kingad down and locking in a firm hold that forced him to tap out.

“The champ is back!” Moraes exclaimed enthusiastically in his post-fight interview, signaling a strong comeback after his two consecutive losses to Demetrious Johnson, widely considered the GOAT in the flyweight division. Moraes previously won the first fight against Johnson with a brutal knockout, securing his initial title defense. However, Johnson managed to win in their rematch and the trilogy bout, leaving Moraes seeking redemption in his latest appearance at ONE 169.

With the flyweight title currently vacant following Johnson's retirement, Moraes may be in line for a future title opportunity, potentially re-establishing his legacy in the division. Moraes’s triumph over Kingad not only strengthens his bid for another title shot but also sets the stage for exciting matchups as ONE Championship’s flyweight division remains open for contenders.
