Bellator MMA's only event in July, Bellator 283, went into full swing on Friday at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash. The main event was the fight between the former Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima and the fourth-ranked welterweight Jason Jackson.
Lima was riding a three-fight losing skid, with his most recent outing a split decision loss to Michael Page at Bellator 267 in October of last year. Jackson, on the other hand, was riding a five-fight winning streak with a decision victory at Bellator 260 in his most recent bout.
Jackson vs. Lima highlights:
Lima faces an impressive Jackson who comes off the back of recent wins over Neiman Gracie and Paul Daley. Although Lima was interested in focusing on his leg kicks early in the fight, it took just over 90 seconds for Jackson to land the first takedown, putting Lima on the floor. After that, the land dominated for Jackson.
In round 2, Jackson scored another takedown. Lima briefly showed signs of life as he connected with a stunning upkick on Jackson, who survived and stayed on top.
In round 3, Jackson took Lima down again. Lima eventually reversed the position – only for it to backfire. Lima tries to go back to his leg kick, but Jackson takes him down again.
By round 4, Jackson was cutting his grip on Lima, cutting him above the eye as he seemed to accept Jackson's success and easily maintained top position.
By round 5, it was clear where the fight was going and what the decision was going to be. Jackson took Lima down immediately and clocked out.
After the end of the fight, As everyone knew and expected, Jackson took the decision via three comprehensive scorecards that all read 50-45.
With the win, Jackson would have earned a title shot, with Jackson stating that he would like to fight the winner of welterweight champion Yaroslav Amosov and interim champion Logan Storley, who they would face to unify the titles. It is expected. Jackson, claiming that there was no one else left to fight to earn a title shot, also ruled out a possible future match with Michael "Venom" Page.
In the co-main event of the evening, number one ranked lightweight Sidney Outlaw will take on replacement Tawfiq Musayev. Outlaw continues a two-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming against Myles Jury at Bellator 261. Musayev will be making his promotional debut and is 15-1 in his last 16 outings.
