DANA IS COLD!

*THE EMAIL*

February 2nd, 2026. Meta Apex, Las Vegas.

Oleksandr Gvozdyk had forgotten how good it feels to be the hammer.

First round - BOOM. Kalajdzic down. The crowd at the Apex, all those UFC execs in black t-shirts learning how boxing works, actually stood up.

Fourth round - BOOM again. Same right hand. Hot Rod was hurt. Gvozdyk looked at his corner and nodded. 60-52. 60-52. 59-53 on the cards. He was 39, but he was a former WBC Champion for a reason.

In the back, a Zuffa rep slapped him on the shoulder between rounds. "Great job. Amazing. We're bringing you back in May."

He believed it. Why wouldn't he?

He got greedy in the 7th. He saw a former world champion getting his old aura back with a stoppage. He stepped in, chin high, hands low, looking for the finish.

He never saw the right hand.

He woke up looking at the lights of the Apex. The same lights they use for Dana White's Contender Series. No more roar. Just the medics.

Still, in the locker room, they were nice. "Hell of a fight." "Warrior." "See you in camp next month."

So he rested. Went home to Ukraine. Started running again. Started hitting the bag again. Telling his wife - May. We go back in May.

April came.

No call. No camp date.

Just an inbox notification.

Subject: Contract Termination Notice - Zuffa Boxing LLC

One paragraph of legal language. The clause every fighter signs but thinks will never be used on them. "Promoter reserves the right to terminate agreement in the event of a loss..."

He had been fired by email.

On September 26th, the man who knocked him out, Radivoje Kalajdzic, will walk out at Zuffa Boxing 11 to fight Craig Richards, still employed, still in the machine.

And Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Olympic bronze medalist, former WBC and lineal Light Heavyweight Champion of the world, will be watching it from home, checking his email.
