In May 2007, De La Hoya and Mayweather competed in one of the most lucrative fights in boxing history. Mayweather won the battle by decision. The competition generated more than 130 million in revenue. PPV made 2.4 million purchases.
There was talk of a possible rematch, but Mayweather ended his short retirement. De La Hoya's efforts against Mayweather became prominent in its final form. He beat Steve Forbes in a poor performance before he was defeated by Manny Pacquiao, which led to his retirement. De La Hoya was paving the way for his return and was due to face Belfort but his plan was thwarted when he faced covid and had to get out of the match. The same promotion is hoping to re-book Belfort vs. De La Hoya at Thanksgiving Weekend.
TMZ Sports talked with Oscar De La Hoya, who made a massive offer to fight Mayweather again.
"You know who I'm going to call for my next fight? Floyd Mayweather. I'm going to offer Floyd Mayweather 100 million."
Mayweather retired from pro boxing in August 2017. He ended his career with a superb 50-0 record by defeating Connor McGregor in the 10th round of TKO. Since then, Mayweather has competed against Tenshen Nsokawa and Logan Paul.
