Islam Makhachev Submits Renato Moicano in Dominant UFC 311 Performance

Islam Makhachev once again showcased his dominance, overcoming a last-minute opponent change to defend his lightweight title for a record-breaking fourth time at UFC 311. With Arman Tsarukyan withdrawing due to a back injury just 24 hours before the event, Renato Moicano stepped into the main event against the reigning champion. Despite the short notice, Makhachev delivered a flawless performance, securing a victory via a first-round D’arce choke at 4:05.

The bout began with Moicano landing a clean shot, briefly catching Makhachev’s attention. However, the champion quickly closed the distance, bringing the fight to the ground. Once on the mat, Makhachev’s superior grappling left Moicano with no room to escape. As soon as Moicano scrambled, Makhachev capitalized on the opportunity, locking in a D’arce choke. The submission, reminiscent of his victory over Dustin Poirier, ended the fight lightning-fastly.

“I’m always looking for the finish,” Makhachev declared post-fight. “I’m not just talk. All fight week, all my camp, all media, if my opponent gives me a small chance, I will close the night.”

Moicano, initially preparing to face Beneil Dariush, displayed heart in taking on the formidable champion on such short notice. Though visibly disappointed after the loss, Moicano was determined to continue pursuing greatness.

“I’m very sad,” he said. “I spent my whole life for this moment and I tapped in the first round. I’m not done. I don’t know if I will ever get a chance like that, but I will try my best to do it.”

With the victory, Makhachev surpassed his mentor and coach Khabib Nurmagomedov’s record for the most lightweight title defenses in UFC history. Unstoppable in the division, Makhachev is ready to face any challenger.

“I like this belt,” he stated. “It’s not my job. If somebody wants this belt, come to the cage.”

As Makhachev cements his legacy, UFC fans eagerly await his next challenge.
