Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green to headline UFC Fight Night event after Beneil Dariush suffers injur

A Big UFC announcement came after Dariush announced on Wednesday that he was withdrawing from the fight after suffering an ankle injury during training. That was definitely bad news. If he withdraws from the fight just a few days before the fight in a big event. All eyes were then on the UFC to see what would happen next.


The UFC then made a big announcement that Green would replace Dariush on a short notice in the five-round catchweight main event at UFC Fight Night on Saturday, Feb. 26. Top UFC light-hearted Islam Makhachev will now face Bobby Green on a 10-day notice after Russia's main rival withdrew due to injury.


MMA reporter Brett Okamoto said he was at Dariush's gym when he suffered a "freak injury" after being taken down by his opponent.


"Feel very badly for Beneil Dariush though," he wrote on Twitter. "I was there when it happened yesterday. Freak injury, his toe caught in the mat during a takedown, during light sparring. No timeframe yet on recovery.

Makhachev (21-1) is on the verge of making a big leap in the UFC lightweight division after nine consecutive wins. Makhachev vs. Darius was considered by many to be a battle to end the title. The Dagestani fighter, who trains with former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, is winning all three against Dan Hooker, Thiago Moises and Drew Dober.


The 35-year-old is known for his intriguing fighting style and has competed against the likes of Dustin Poirier and Edson Barboza during his current UFC season. MMA veteran Green has fought for the UFC - he merged with Strike Force in 2013 and is close to 20 promotional shows. Green (29-12-1) will bring 14 days change after winning a unanimous decision against the right wing. The fan-friendly striker is set to win two fights after defeating Haqprast in UFC 268 in November and stopping Al Iaquinta. Other notable victories on his record include Clay Guida, Josh Thomson and James Krause.


Green has infamously struggled to break the top of the lightweight division in the UFC, but now he has the opportunity to take a short notice against Makhachev.
