It appears that Justin Gaethje may be next in line for a title shot if Islam Makhachev can successfully conquer Charles Oliveira at UFC 294.

This year has been nothing short of spectacular for Justin Gaethje, earning him the moniker "The Highlight." Gaethje has delivered impressive victories against Rafael Fiziev and Dustin Poirier, with the latter resulting in a knockout that secured the BMF (Baddest Motherf****r) title. Gaethje's reputation as an action-packed fighter willing to put it all on the line is well-established. However, in his two previous attempts at the UFC lightweight championship, he fell short against the formidable Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.

As Charles Oliveira gears up to challenge Islam Makhachev for the coveted 155-pound title, speculation arises that Gaethje is poised to face the victor.

Ali Abdelaziz, a prominent figure in MMA management who represents both Gaethje and Makhachev, shed light on the potential matchup. He stated,

"If Islam wins, he will fight Justin Gaethje next. This is what we want, this is what the UFC wants. Justin Gaethje earned it, too. You don't go out there and knock out Dustin Poirier like that and don't get a title shot. I think Justin made a statement and he earned his spot."

Abdelaziz didn't mince words in his praise for Makhachev, asserting,

"Islam is the best lightweight in the world, hands down. There's no question. I think he's the pound-for-pound greatest fighter we have today."

While the prospect of a fight between two fighters represented by the same manager may raise eyebrows, there's no denying that it would be an intriguing and high-stakes clash.

Could Gaethje secure the championship that has eluded him twice before? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the UFC lightweight division continues to be a hotbed of excitement and intrigue. What are your thoughts on this upcoming battle of the lightweights?
