Dominick Cruz vs. Marlon Vera is working to headline the Ultimate Fighting Championship event on August 13.
ESPN Deportes first reported the fight and said that the fight between Cruz and Vera had been verbally agreed upon, and would take place at the main event of the UFC Fight Night event on August 13.
The UFC Fight Night event is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and the evening co-host event will feature Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araujo.
Vera spent a good year trying to fight Cruz, but "The Dominator" had no interest in the fight until Vera was below him in the bantamweight rankings. After a resounding victory over Rob Font in April, "Chito" came in at number five, leaving Cruz at number eight.
Marilyn Vera will headline his second UFC card as he competes against former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. This fight is very important for the bantamweight division because the winner can fight very well be fighting for gold their next time out.
This will be Vera's second consecutive headline engagement after a five-round decision on Rob Font at the UFC on ESPN 35 on April 30. The "chito" has won four of its last five octagons, against other winners. Frankie Edgar, Davey Grant, and Sean O'Malley.
Dominick Cruz (24-3) has been on a two-fight winning streak since his return as he defeated both Pedro Manhoz and Casey Kenney. Prior to the win, he lost to Henry Cejudo for the Bantamweight title, losing to TKO and Cody Garbrandt for the belt. The former bantamweight champion is ranked eighth and has won significant victories against Urijah Faber, TJ Dillashaw, Demetrius Johnson, Joseph Benavidez, and Ian McCall.
