Nate Diaz cleared of battery charge after choking Logan Paul lookalike

Nate Diaz, the former UFC star and MMA legend, can breathe a sigh of relief as he will not face any charges for allegedly choking a man who resembled Logan Paul in New Orleans in April.

Diaz was arrested and briefly held by the New Orleans police after a video of him putting a man in a rear-naked choke and rendering him unconscious on the street went viral. The man, who was later identified as Rodney Peterson, gained attention for his striking similarity to Paul, the YouTube star and boxer.

However, on Monday, the Orleans Parish (LA.) District Attorney decided not to pursue the case against Diaz and dropped the second-degree battery charge. The reason for the district attorney’s decision is not known at this time. If the charge had not been dropped, Diaz could have faced up to eight years in prison and/or a $2,000 fine under Louisiana state law.

Diaz, who is 36 years old, fought Paul’s younger brother Jake Paul in his professional boxing debut in June, just two months after the incident. He lost by unanimous decision in a highly anticipated bout. Diaz has not ruled out the possibility of a rematch with Paul in MMA, as he has experience in both sports.

Diaz left the UFC last year after defeating Tony Ferguson in his farewell fight at UFC 279. He parted ways with the promotion shortly after the event and became a free agent.

Diaz and his team are happy to put this legal issue behind them and focus on his next move in his fighting career.
