The Professional Fighters League (PFL) kicks off its 2022 season tonight (Friday, June 17, 2022) at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia with a lightweight and lightweight heavyweight showcase. In which light weight and light heavyweight will try their luck to go to the playoffs.
The card's headlines were set by fans' favorite and most dangerous PFL fighters, Clay Collard and Alex Martinez. The co-hosting event features the return of Light Heavyweight Champion Antonio Carlos Jr. as he faces Bruce Souto.
Alex Martinez had to fight a tough battle in the main event of PFL 4. When Martinez (10-2) knocked former UFC fighter Clay Collard (21-10) out of a separate decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) after a tough contest.
Collard vs. Martinez Results
First Round: The both fighters first appeared to be quite obsessed and attacked each other with fists and punches. Collard punched Martinez's body. On several occasions, Martinez bowed his head in pain, but he stood firm and did not bow. The two men had time on earth and they seemed to be enjoying themselves despite eating corn. Collard's leg kicks were telegraphed but successful - big wind-ups for everyone as he ran inside.
Round 2 was as thrilling as the first round, in Round 2 Martinez had managed to strengthen his grip on the match considerably. But as the round approached the midway point, Collard changed the course of the match when he knocked down Martinez with a punch. Martinez crashed backwards on the canvas, but successfully defended Collard's follow-up shot effort. Eventually Collard crawled on Martinez's back and tried to arm him. Martinez escaped and refused several rolling switch attempts by Collard. Turn tables turned. Martinez snatched Collard's back and locked him in the back of his bare knee - or not. Somehow a tense collard survived - and even his tongue stuck out during the celebration. The horn was blowing from above the Martinez.
Fighting for the final round, possibly for the first time in Bout, there was a wall and a stall, even if only for a moment. Collard stepped out as Martinez choked on gluten. Collard returned to the body shot and hit Martinez again. He shot hard for take-off, and found almost one. He pushed Collard against the fence. Collard used a camera and a few punches to make room, but Martinez came down and got a sloppy takedown. The fight ended with Collard's guard at Martinez.
With the win, Martinez turned a standout win against Steve Ray into a two-fight winning streak in April. He went 3-2 overall in the PFL, his second season with 2022 promotion.
PFL 4 starts live on Friday 17th June 2022 at 7pm ET at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, GA. The full results can be found below.
