Friday night's PFL Challenger Series 7 card offered something different from the first six weeks of the series, as PFL said during the promotion.
While earlier editions focused on specific weight classes, the PFL Challenger Series 7 was designed to offer a card with 10 fighters in five bouts in four weight classes instead of a specific weight class. Presents Professional Debut. These fighters could be the next champions in their classes and this is the first time they will step out and fight on a big stage. Every great fighter started with a professional debut, that's what these 10 will have the opportunity to experience together here tonight.
The PFL Challenger Series 7 Card takes place at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Friday's highlight was in the welterweight division, with Serbian kickboxer Andreja Stankovic competing against veteran amateur grappler Louis Bravington. Stankovich trained at Striking Mind Henry Hoft at Sanford MMA and tried to test his kickboxing skills against Bravington, a 7-5 amateur who made his professional debut with three of four. Four fights were on the winning streak. Brewington lost 1.6 pounds for Friday's main event, and the fight was moving on to the catchweight.
In addition, Atlanta native Christian Turner, an unbeaten amateur Cuban-American, was battling another impressive prospect in the second fight from the top in Chayanne Serrano. Turner, who trains outside of the Atlanta top team, has an excellent 4-0 amateur record in his pro debut, while Serrano has no qualms about trailing himself 6-1 in the amateur ranks. Oddsmakers are currently in favor of Turner taking action against Florida.
Turner vs. Serrano was not the only fight at 155 pounds, however, Alexis Perganda as "Russian DNA" involved another thrilling 6-1 thriller against Atlanta amateur Joe Ham. Pergande trains outside the Nashville MMA with UFC veterans Dustin Ortiz and Luke Sanders and has an amateur record of 4-0 with all four wins coming within distance. He is currently the favorite against Ham, who is set to win two fights in the amateur ranks at Friday's event. The other two fights featured heavyweights Santino Zorita and Raqim Tilley, as well as a featherweight bout between Jillon McDaniel and Derry Alderman, an important part of the event.
The concept of a "professional start" was unique, although it was a novelty in terms of historically advanced fight cards. And, to some extent incredible, the event managed to hold together all the way to fight at night. This means that every fighter on the docket had a 0-0 record to start the night.
