Undefeated lightweight superstar Ryan Garcia (22-0, 18KOs) will make his second appearance of the year against two-time former world champion Javier "El Abejon" Fortuna (37-3-1, 26 KOs).
The 12-round light fight will take place on Saturday, July 16, and will be broadcast live around the world, exclusively on DAZN.
Originally facing Fortuna in July 2021, Garcia had to withdraw from the event due to a mental health struggle. However, it has knocked out almost every top contender by knockout, including the seventh-round stoppage of 2012 Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell via TKO to win the interim WBC lightweight title in 2021.
Fortuna has proven to be an experienced professional, as his record is 37-3-1. The Dominican has won 26 knockouts from their victories, giving them a 60.47% knockout rate. However, South Pa suffered a knockout defeat at the hands of Jason Sosa in 2016.
The young American Garcia is still unbeaten, as he has an impressive record of 22-0. His amazing unbeaten career with 18 knockouts in the ring, including his superb shutout performance against Emmanuel Tegoe, has made him one of the top stars in the light divisions of our time. Now, at 23, the invincible light-hearted sense is on a mission to prove that he has what it takes to defeat the division's elite.
"I will see everyone in this fight who thinks I'm afraid of Fortuna," said Ryan Garcia. It will be a very interesting fight and a good show. It didn't happen last year as it was originally announced but I hope this time it will be real.
Fortuna, on the other hand, was last seen at a spectacular first-round stoppage by Rafael Hernandez in Santo Domingo, DR last February, and he will be looking to put on another stellar performance against Ryan Garcia on July 16.
This fight is going to be very important as both the youngsters want to be the king of the lightweight division. Now let's see who wins.
