Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland jumped to the defense of his teammate Chris Curtis after Curtis' courageous but unsuccessful effort against Brendan Allen at UFC Vegas 90. Despite taking the fight on short notice, Curtis and Allen engaged in a thrilling back-and-forth battle that left the judges with a tough decision.
In a series of tweets, Strickland expressed admiration for Curtis' performance, noting the challenges of stepping in on short notice.
"He was so out of shape and underprepared for this fight...and still won..," Strickland tweeted, highlighting the grit and determination required to compete at the highest level of the sport. He also shared some lighthearted advice, jokingly suggesting, "Shoulda finished high school lmao!"
However, Strickland quickly shifted his tone, recognizing the realities of the fight game. "Alright I'm done bitching lol we're all grown ass men and we all make our own decisions.. Just run it back on a full camp, curt deserves that. Goodnight yall!"
Strickland himself is looking to bounce back after a loss to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297, following his middleweight title win over Israel Adesanya. Meanwhile, Curtis' performance, despite the loss, has garnered praise and shown that he is a force to be reckoned with in the middleweight division.
Curtis had previously defeated Marc-André Barriault at UFC 297, breaking a two-fight skid.
He had won his first three UFC fights before facing a series of ups and downs in his recent outings.
