Teofimo Lopez is retiring from boxing in style. On Saturday, he decisively defeated Josh Taylor, and a few days after, he made his retirement announcement.
The WBO and The Ring light welterweight champion Lopez might return if a nine-figure offer is made.
Lopez allegedly kept in touch with lightweight Ryan Garcia, who was defeated by knockout by Gervonta Davis in a fight. In reaction to Garcia's demand for a fight, Lopez was vicious in his reply
“Ryan [direct messaged] me and everything, bro's desperate for a payday,” Lopez said. “He DM'd me after the Josh Taylor fight. I deleted it.”
Garcia profited greatly from his confrontation with Davis. Due to his 50% ownership of the pay-per-view revenue, he might receive a payout of around $5 million, according to various sources.
According to DraftKings, Lopez can expect to earn $1.5 million from his fight with Taylor in addition to pay-per-view revenue. In his battle with Davis, Garcia appeared to earn more money than Lopez has at any point in his career.
One of the top up-and-coming fighters in the sport is Teofimo Lopez. He was given the chance to challenge Vasiliy Lomachenko for the WBA, WBO, and The Ring lightweight belts in October 2020 as a result of his knockout ability and ring celebrations garnering media attention. After winning the fight, Lopez's career took off.
Unfortunately, Lopez's career trajectory took a downward turn with his defeat by George Kambosos Jr. in November 2021. He had "pneumomediastinum," or extra air in his chest, throughout the fight.
