UFC 272 results, highlights: Rafael dos Anjos batters Renato Moicano for grueling decision win

On Saturday night, the pair face Colby Covington and George Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, in which Covington won 49-46, 50-44 and 50-45 in a wide collective. Worked on the decision.

In addition, UFC 272 co-host event had a catch weight of 160 pounds. Rafael dos Anjos was originally due to face Rafael Fiziev on Saturday night, but Moicano stepped into the fray on just five days' notice, replacing Rafael Fiziev after Fiziev's COVID-19 test positive. The match with Fiziev was moved from the scheduled date of February 19 to the UFC 272 co-main event, and the contest remained five rounds after Moicano stepped in.

Rafael dos Anjos continued a successful campaign since returning to light weight with a resounding victory on Saturday. The former UFC champion performed brilliantly against UFC 272 short notice substitute Renato Moicano.

From the initial round, dos Anjos was a sharp fighter, combining solid striking with takeoff and devastating ground attack. Until the second round, when Dos Anjos knocked down Moicano with a clean head kick, it seemed that the fight could not reach the final horn for a full 25 minutes.

Round 2 began with the immediate aftermath of both fighters. dos Anjos had the most success, landing in hard shots, but Moicano managed to score some of his own. As the fighting continued, Moicano looked a bit sluggish and tired, and it turned out that Dos Anjos was clearly the latest and most explosive fighter. Halfway through the round, dos Anjos took the fight to the ground and began working on the ground and the pound for the rest of the frame.

After the third round, Moicano's Corner refused to stop fighting despite inflicting heavy casualties on the fighter. Referee Marc Goddard also allowed the fight to continue after consulting Ringside's doctor.

This situation will repeat itself before the fifth round, the doctor told Goddard that it would be appropriate to stop the fight but Moicano could technically see with his badly swollen eye. Moicano charged late, landed at the bottom of the clean punches several times but was not close enough to avoid the loss of a clear decision on the scorecards.

The three official judges voted in favor of Dos Anjos. With which Dos Anjos (31-13 MMA, 20-11 UFC) defeated Moicano (16-5-1 MMA, 8-5 UFC) 49-45, 49-44, and 50-44 to win a unanimous decision.

As a result, Dos Anjos now finds himself on the verge of winning two fights since returning to light weight. The 37-year-old went 4-4 in Welterweight before falling to 155 pounds at the end of 2020. He defeated Paul Felder in the lightweight division.

Moicano had a stunning victory over Alexander Hernandez in UFC 271 three weeks ago. After moving to the lightweight division in March 2020, they are now 3-2 up. Prior to his defeat at UFC 272, his only loss was to the current emerging contender, and the man he converted to UFC 272 was Rafael Fiziev. Moicano was a contender for the top 10 in featherweight before advancing to the weight class.
