UFC 277 Update: Two Fighters Exit July 30 Event Due to Injury

UFC 277 was set to take place on July 30 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, with a rematch of the Bantamweight Championship between Juliana Pena and Amanda Nunes. But suddenly the event card has been changed. Now call it bad luck or good luck it's up to you what you think.

The first change was that Diego Ferreira withdrew from the competition on July 30 due to injury. BJPenn.com first reported the news on Wednesday. Promotion is currently looking for an alternative to Close.

This is an unfortunate development for Ferreira (17-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC), who trains at the Fortis MMA Gym in Dallas. The 37-year-old Brazilian was hoping to get back on track in front of a crowd in his hometown, trying to snatch a three-match losing streak. Prior to Skid, Ferreira was on a six-fight winning streak submitted by former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. Ferreira has since lost to Beneil Dariush (split decision), Gregor Gillespie (TKO) and Mateusz Gamrot (TKO).

Opponent Klose has won four of his last five Octagons. Most recently, a 34-year-old Fight Ready correspondent scored Brandon Jenkins' second-round TKO at UFC on ESPN 34.

The other big change came from Mariya Agapova, who was scheduled to compete against Ji Yeon Kim in UFC 277 but was dropped from the event on the pretext of injury. Agapova will now be replaced by Kim Joselyne Edwards (11-4). Panama's Edwards confirmed the news on social media on Wednesday.

South Korea's Kim, aka "Firefist," will try to start a losing streak of three fights by the end of the month. It has left all three of the unanimous decisions to Alexa Grasso, Molly McCann and Priscilla Cachoeira. She may have spelled out the promotion, if not for the back-to-back fight of the night bonus in her last two fights.

Edwards snatched one or two fight skids of her own thanks to a recent decisive win over Invicta FC vet Ramona Pascual. Overall, the former KOTC women's bantamweight champion and LFA Elm is 2-2 inside the Octagon.

UFC 277 takes place on July 30 at American Airlines Arena in Dallas and is headlined by the rematch of the Bantamweight Championship between Juliana Pena and Amanda Nunes. In the co-main event, Brandon Moreno and Kai kara France will compete for the interim flyweight title.

With this latest change, the event is expected to have the following fights:
