UFC 280 Update: Rising UFC bantamweight Contender announces matchup against former champion in Oct

As the UFC begins to build a strong fight card for an exciting UFC 280 event on October 22nd. A main or co-main event between the rising UFC bantamweight Contenders Sean O'Malley and former champion Peter Yan is in the works.

I'm getting a fight that I wanted and the fight that people want," O'Malley said. "I'm fighting Petr Yan on Oct. 22 in Abu Dhabi. I think this is ... I'm so excited. I can't believe that this is real and it's happening."

While on the other hand, Yan's manager, Danny Rubenstein said, later clarified that the fight had not yet been officially signed, but verbal agreements were in place.

Sean O'Malley vs Peter Yan

O'Malley (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) is coming off a no-contest decision against veteran Pedro Munhoz at UFC 276 earlier this month. The bout was ruled a no-contest after an eye poke from O'Malley that knocked Munhoz out of the contest. Prior to the fight with Munhoz, O'Malley had three straight stoppage wins, marking his comeback in 2020 with a TKO loss to Marlon Vera.

Yan (16-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC), on the other hand, looks to bounce back from a split decision loss to champion Aljamain Sterling in an attempt to recapture the title at UFC 273 in April. Yan's only two losses in the UFC have come against Aljamain.

UFC 280 Fight Card

UFC 280 will feature some more significant business at 135 pounds, as Sterling will return to defend his title against former champion TJ Dillashaw. Elsewhere on the card, Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhchev clash for the vacant lightweight title while Sean Brady and Belal Muhammad separate the 170-pound contenders.
