The UFC is back with another exciting Fight Night event for us this weekend. After a decisive victory over former champion Mesha Tate, Caitlin Vera is now ready to hunt down another former champion, Holly Holm. Also on the card, # 14 ranked Santiago Ponzenebio will face Michelle Pereira in the welterweight matchup.
The event will take place on Saturday, May 21 at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. All competitions will be exclusively streamed on ESPN +, with preliminary competitions starting at 4 p.m.
Vera (12-2-0), 30, is currently ranked No. 6 in the Bantamweight division and has recorded the biggest win of her career so far in her last fight against Tate. She hopes to gain some momentum with the victory over Holm and jump into the top five.
Holm (14-5-0), meanwhile, remains No. 2 in the division despite suffering from various ailments and injuries since May 20, 2021. Her last match was a decisive victory against Irene Aldana in October 2020. Norma met Dumont in October 2021, but a knee injury forced her to remove the card and replace it with a spanner. However, in a recent Instagram post, his knee seems to have recovered.
The event featured a heavyweight bout between Ben Ruthwell and former UFC Light Heavyweight Championship challenger Alexander Gustafsson. However, the fight was called off after Rothwell was expelled from the organization in late March. Gustafsson is now expected to face Nikita Krylov in the light heavyweight division at UFC Fight Night 212.
Maxim Grishin was expected to face Jailton Almeida in the lightweight division at the event. However, in late April, Grishin returned for unknown reasons. Almeida decided to go heavyweight and instead compete with Parker Porter.
Interviews before Media Day are expected to take place on Wednesday, May 18 and can be viewed live on the promotion's official website YouTube, Facebook and Twitch.
