Muhammad Bilal had a big win against Vicente Luque of Brazil in the main event of UFC ON ESPN 34 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
In a six-year rematch, Bilal Mohammed (21–3 MMA, 12–3 UFC) managed to get some revenge from Vicente Luque (21–8–1 MMA, 14–4 UFC), keeping his name.
As expected, Luck tried to slow down quickly, but Mohammed moved well to avoid accusations and chose his chances to compete on foot. In the final stages of the opening frame, he was also able to move forward and take the action to the destination, devising a strategy that he would use throughout the competition.
Mohammed's lateral movement, timely counters and slack take-downs saw him control the flow of the fight for everyone except for a short break in the third frame, when Luque managed to take off some crisp left forks on his feet. Apparently they suffered. But Muhammad finally managed to recover and then regained speed, controlling until the last bell and reaching a unanimous decision 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47.
In his post-fight interview, Mohammed did not waste time campaigning for the title shot. Instead, he turned his attention to fellow title contender Colby Covington.
"Let me bring the big-mouthed Karen, Colby Covington, who's calling the 55ers here," Mohammed said. Come coward and fight the real 70 pounds. I am a real 70 pounds. I am winning battles. I am not a Masvidal away from two defeats, I am not a Wadley from five defeats, I am 'Bully B' out of seven victories. "Don't be a coward, come fight me because I am a real challenger for you," Bilal told Colby Covington.
Muhammad now finds himself unbeaten in the last eight contests. Muhammad's streak includes many notable names such as Damien Maya, Stephen Thompson and now Lok.
Meanwhile, Lok saw the end of the four-fight losing streak. It was his first defeat since the final decision against Stephen Thompson in late 2019.
