UFC Vegas 100 Weigh-In Drama: Neil Magny vs. Carlos Prates Main Event Cleared, But Multiple Fighters Miss Weight

The UFC Vegas 100 weigh-ins saw some last-minute challenges, with two fighters missing weight and an unfortunate bout cancellation. Newcomer Zach Scroggin, stepping in on short notice to face Elizeu Zaleski, struggled with the weight cut and came in three pounds over the 171-pound welterweight limit for non-title fights. Weighing in at 174 pounds, Scroggin's short-notice booking for Nicolas Dalby left him without adequate preparation time for the cut, resulting in his missed weight on Friday. As of now, it remains unclear if his fight with Zaleski will proceed at a catchweight, and if so, how much of his purse Scroggin might forfeit as a penalty.

Scroggin wasn’t alone in facing weight issues. Bantamweight fighter Melissa Mullins, the last to step onto the scale, came in at 137 pounds—one pound above the bantamweight non-title limit. Her bout with Klaudia Sygula is still pending final approval to determine if it will proceed at a catchweight, with Mullins potentially facing a similar penalty deduction.

Amid the weigh-in difficulties, welterweight headliners Neil Magny and Carlos Prates successfully made weight, with Magny weighing in at 171 pounds and Prates at 170.5. Known for his consistent performance in making weight, Magny further reinforced his record as one of the UFC’s most experienced welterweights, boasting a promotional record of 22 wins. This fight against Prates will mark Magny’s 35th appearance, underscoring his resilience and reliability in a sport where weigh-ins can present significant obstacles.

Unfortunately, the bantamweight bout between Ricky Turcios and Benardo Sopaj was officially canceled following weigh-ins due to Turcios's medical issue. The UFC confirmed this after the weigh-ins, disappointing fans who were anticipating the matchup on the main card.

The main card, set for Saturday, includes several highly anticipated bouts, with Magny vs. Prates as the headline. Reinier de Ridder will make his UFC debut against Gerald Meerschaert at middleweight, both fighters weighing in precisely at 185 pounds. Other key matchups feature Luana Pinheiro against Gillian Robertson in the strawweight division and Mansur Abdul-Malik versus Dusko Todorovic in the middleweight category, with all competitors making weight.
