UFC Vegas 60: Erin Blanchfield submits Jessica Andrade, wants title shot next!

At UFC Vegas 69, Erin Blanchfield surprised everyone with her dominant performance against Jessica Andrade, a former UFC champion. Blanchfield started strong with aggressive strikes, taking control early in the fight.

Although Andrade landed some good shots towards the end of the first round, Blanchfield continued her momentum in the second round and quickly moved into side control on the ground. She then took Andrade's back and submitted her with a rear-naked choke. Blanchfield's impressive performance could potentially earn her a shot at the UFC women's flyweight title.

Following a submission win over former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade at UFC Fight Night, Blanchfield (11-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) called for a shot at the winner of flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko vs. Alexa Grasso, a bout scheduled for March 4 at UFC 285.

The callout was perhaps out of character for Blanchfield, but she told reporters at her post-fight news conference the request did not diverge from her usual persona. Two weeks after Blanchfield's victory, Shevchenko is scheduled to defend her championship. Blanchfield wants to face Shevchenko in his next title fight, whether it happens soon or not.

“I would definitely prefer Shevchenko. I think she beats Grasso,” Blanchfield said. “I think Grasso is a very tough fighter, but I want to be the one to take that title from (Shevchenko).”
