Flyweight contender Lauren Murphy will compete against current division champion Valentina Shevchenko in UFC 266 at the T-Mobile Arena on September 25, 2021.
Upcoming women's flyweight contender "Lucky" Lauren Murphy 15-4-0 is confident she can beat current division champion Valentina Shevchenko 21-3-0. She is ranked # 3 in the women's flyweight division, but Shevchenko remains in that division.
Lauren Murphy on Valentina: "She has never faced anyone as tough as me!" I think I'm pretty hard on where I need to go with it. She did not face anyone as harsh as me. She didn't face anyone who could grind like I could grind. "
Murphy is clearly hoping that her five-fight winning streak will be rewarded with a shot at Shevchenko's title. Shevchenko, has no shortage of wins. The champion has not lost a battle since 2018. In fact, since 2011, her only mixed martial arts loss has been against Amanda Nunes.
Nunes is the reigning champion in both the bantamweight and featherweight divisions, and is the # 1 pound for pound female MMA Fighter on the planet.
Shevchenko has demonstrated a variety of techniques and abilities during her tenure. She left her opponents behind in both strikes and quarrels, knocking out as many as possible.
