  • The Best Uppercuts in Boxing History

Uppercuts The Best Uppercuts in Boxing History The uppercut is one of the most devastating punches in boxing, capable of changing the tide of a fight in an instant. When thrown correctly, it sneaks past an opponent’s guard, lands flush on the chin, and often results in a highlight-reel knockout. While many fighters have mastered the art of the jab, hook, and cross, only a select few have perfected the uppercut to legendary levels. Let’s take a look at the boxers with the most dangerous and effective uppercuts in history. 1. Mike Tyson – The Undisputed Uppercut King Mike Tyson’s uppercut was pure destruction. As one of the most feared heavyweights of all time, Tyson used his compact frame and explosive power to unleash uppercuts that sent opponents crumbling. His ability to slip inside, throw vicious hooks, and follow up with an uppercut made him a nightmare for anyone standing in front of him. A prime example of this was his knockout of Buster Mathis Jr., where he used a perfectly timed uppercut to end the fight in brutal fashion. 2. Lennox Lewis – The Perfect Technician Lennox Lewis had one of the most powerful uppercuts in heavyweight history. His knockout of Michael Grant in 2000 showcased the sheer force of his uppercut, as he sent Grant crashing to the canvas with a picture-perfect shot. Lewis’ height and reach allowed him to throw uppercuts from a distance, making it nearly impossible for opponents to avoid. Unlike Tyson’s short, compact uppercuts, Lewis’ version was long, destructive, and often set up by his powerful jab. 3. George Foreman – The Clubbing Uppercut Big George Foreman was known for his brute strength, and his uppercut was like a sledgehammer. Whether in his prime or during his legendary comeback, Foreman’s uppercut was one of the most dangerous punches in the sport. His ability to stand toe-to-toe with opponents and deliver a punishing uppercut made him a true heavyweight force. One of his best displays of the uppercut came in his fight against Ron Lyle, where he used it to help secure a wild comeback victory in one of the greatest slugfests in boxing history. 4. Joe Louis – The Smooth Operator Joe Louis had one of the most technically sound uppercuts in boxing history. His ability to deliver it with pinpoint accuracy was second to none. Louis’ uppercut was never wild or reckless—it was smooth, calculated, and incredibly efficient. He famously used it to dismantle opponents like Max Baer, combining it with his precise punching to deliver some of the most textbook knockouts of all time. 5. Riddick Bowe – The Inside Specialist Riddick Bowe’s uppercut was one of the best weapons in the heavyweight division during the 1990s. His battles with Evander Holyfield showcased his ability to land devastating uppercuts in close range. Unlike many heavyweights who relied on their reach and jab, Bowe was comfortable fighting on the inside, where he could unleash his uppercut with full force. His uppercut-heavy performance in his first fight with Holyfield in 1992 is still considered one of the best heavyweight fights ever. 6. Manny Pacquiao – The Speed Demon Manny Pacquiao might be more famous for his relentless combinations and footwork, but his uppercut was a deadly weapon that caught many opponents off guard. His fight against Ricky Hatton in 2009 was a perfect example—Pacquiao landed an uppercut during the early exchanges that set the stage for his iconic knockout. His ability to throw uppercuts from odd angles, combined with his blazing speed, made him a threat in every exchange. 7. Julio César Chávez – The Body Uppercut Master Julio César Chávez was one of the best pressure fighters of all time, and his uppercut was a major reason why. While many fighters aimed their uppercuts at the head, Chávez often targeted the body, breaking down opponents with relentless precision. His brutal body uppercuts helped him wear down and stop many of his toughest challengers, making him one of the most feared inside fighters in boxing history. 8. Sugar Ray Robinson – The Artist Sugar Ray Robinson is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, and his uppercut was a thing of beauty. Unlike some of the heavyweight sluggers on this list, Robinson’s uppercut was fast, fluid, and incredibly accurate. His ability to slip punches and counter with an uppercut made him one of the most complete fighters the sport has ever seen. Honorable Mentions Evander Holyfield  – Used the uppercut effectively in his wars with Bowe and Tyson. Roy Jones Jr.  – Known for his speed and reflexes, Jones’ uppercut was unpredictable and explosive. Gervonta Davis  – One of the best modern uppercuts, with a highlight-reel knockout of Leo Santa Cruz. FIGHT.TV Breaks Down The Best Uppercuts The uppercut is a high-risk, high-reward punch, but when executed perfectly, it can end a fight in an instant. Whether it was Tyson’s raw power, Lewis’ technical destruction, or Chávez’s relentless body shots, each of these boxers used the uppercut to cement their legacy in the sport. Who do you think had the greatest uppercut in boxing history? Let us know in the comments! Would you like me to tweak the article in any way or add more fighters?

  • Jared Cannonier Overcomes Early Adversity, Destroys Gregory Rodrigues in UFC Vegas 102 Thriller

Jared Cannonier Jared Cannonier showcased his warrior spirit at UFC Vegas 102, weathering an early storm before dismantling Gregory Rodrigues with a devastating fourth-round finish. Despite facing serious danger in the opening round, Cannonier roared back in classic fashion to secure another main event victory. Rodrigues came out swinging with bad intentions, wasting no time in putting Cannonier on the defensive. His aggressive approach paid off early as a thunderous right hook floored Cannonier within the first two minutes. Moments later, a well-placed left hand dropped him again, making it look like the fight could be over before it truly began. However, Cannonier, known for his resilience, refused to fold. “I guess I was hurt enough to get dropped on my ass a couple of times,” he admitted. “He was slinging big ass shots. I was able to weather the storm and keep my composure in those tough spots.” As the first round ended, the tides began to shift. Rodrigues’ high output started taking a toll on his gas tank, while Cannonier remained calculated, waiting for his moment. By the second round, Cannonier took control, walking Rodrigues down with precision strikes. The Brazilian’s power had started to fade, and Cannonier seized the opportunity, landing hard shots that forced Rodrigues onto the back foot. Still, the threat wasn’t entirely neutralized, as Rodrigues dug deep and launched another offensive push in the third. That gamble, however, proved costly. Inside the clinch, Cannonier unleashed a brutal elbow that sent Rodrigues crashing to the canvas. Smelling blood, he followed up with relentless ground-and-pound, leaving Rodrigues dazed as he stumbled back to his corner at the end of the round. With Rodrigues clearly compromised, Cannonier wasted no time in the fourth. He came out swinging, pressuring his opponent against the cage and unleashing a merciless barrage to the body and head. Rodrigues had nowhere to escape as Cannonier delivered the final crushing blow, sending him to the mat and forcing the referee’s intervention just 21 seconds into the round. “I’d rather die on my feet than die on my back,” Cannonier declared, emphasizing his never-say-die mentality. “My improvements definitely showed in this fight.” At 40 years old, Cannonier reminded the middleweight division that he remains a serious threat. After back-to-back losses, this emphatic finish puts him back in the mix, proving that experience, grit, and knockout power still make him one of the most dangerous fighters in the game.

Gregory Rodrigues is a significant name in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA), known for his explosive fighting style and smart tactics. His unique blend of techniques makes him both a thrilling opponent and a captivating subject for analysis. In this post, we will explore the subtleties of his fighting style, his signature moves, strengths, weaknesses, and where he stands among other top fighters in the sport. Overview of Gregory Rodrigues' Fighting Style Gregory Rodrigues fights using a blend of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and striking techniques, giving him a balanced approach in MMA. His grappling skills often overwhelm opponents on the ground, while his striking keeps them on edge during stand-up exchanges. Rodrigues tends to adopt an aggressive stance, leveraging both reach and footwork to control the pace of the fight. His diverse training in various martial arts not only enhances his abilities but also allows him to adapt to the specific strengths and weaknesses of different opponents. This adaptability is a core aspect of his fighting approach, making him a formidable competitor across several weight classes. For instance, in his bout against a fellow grappler, he might focus more on striking to nullify their ground game. Signature Moves and Tactics for Gregory The effectiveness of Gregory Rodrigues’ fighting style shines through his signature moves, which showcase his technical skill. A standout technique in his arsenal is the double-leg takedown . This move is executed with remarkable timing and speed, allowing him to close the distance quickly and establish dominance on the ground. Once on the ground, Rodrigues deploys a ground and pound strategy that is both relentless and precise. After securing a takedown, he frequently unleashes a barrage of elbows and punches. According to fight statistics, fights that enter this phase often see Rodrigues land around 60% of his strikes, showcasing his effectiveness in controlling pace and clinching victories. Rodrigues excels in submission locks as well, demonstrating profound Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expertise. He’s known to set traps for opponents, leading them into his favorite positions. The rear-naked choke is one of his go-to moves, a classic technique that he has used to achieve victories multiple times, further solidifying his grappling reputation. Gregory Before A Fight Strengths and Weaknesses in Gregory Rodrigues' Fighting Style Strengths Rodrigues possesses numerous strengths that enhance his performance in the octagon. His explosive striking allows him to initiate exchanges effectively while keeping a defensive posture. This striking ability is complemented by his endurance; he can maintain a high level of activity throughout a fight, consistently pressuring opponents. Additionally, his grappling skills are vital for his success. His fluid transitions between stand-up and ground combat often allow him to dictate the fight's direction. His mental toughness is another key aspect; he remains composed even under intense pressure, enabling him to make calculated decisions during critical moments. Weaknesses Despite his strengths, Rodrigues faces challenges that he must overcome. One area for improvement is his defensive striking . While he’s capable of landing his shots, there have been multiple instances where he leaves himself open to counterattacks. For example, during one fight on a big stage, he absorbed an average of 40 significant strikes per round, indicating a need to enhance his defensive maneuvers. Another potential weakness is his tactical consistency . At times, Rodrigues may lean too heavily on raw power instead of employing technical strategies. This reliance can sometimes result in lapses, particularly against skilled opponents who capitalize on openings. Focusing on a more strategic game plan could help him mitigate these vulnerabilities. Comparisons with Other Top Fighters in the Industry When comparing Rodrigues to other elite MMA fighters, he stands out in several ways while also revealing areas for improvement. For example, fighters like Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya exemplify exceptional striking and defensive skills that pose challenges for any competitor. Rodrigues’ aggressive style resembles Usman’s intensity but differs from Adesanya’s finesse and precision in the octagon. While Rodrigues shows notable power, he could learn from Adesanya’s mastery of distance management and counterstriking. Similarly, Usman's wrestling experience reveals tactical layers that Rodrigues may aspire to incorporate into his own fights. Continually evolving and adapting his skills will be vital as the dynamic landscape of MMA grows increasingly competitive. Moreover, the evolution of the sport requires fighters like Rodrigues to consistently adapt. By analyzing fellow elite fighters' strategies, he could refine his approach, incorporating innovative techniques that may further enhance his overall fighting style. Future Directions for Gregory Rodrigues Moving forward, Gregory Rodrigues has the potential to solidify his place among MMA's elite by refining his technical skills and improving tactical execution. Keeping a close eye on the performances of top-tier fighters can offer him insights that may sharpen his strategies. • UFC Ditches New Gloves, Brings Back Old Design for All Future Events

The UFC has officially scrapped its newly introduced glove design, opting to return to the classic gloves moving forward. The switch takes effect immediately, starting with UFC Vegas 102. UFC play-by-play commentator John Gooden confirmed the decision at the beginning of the event’s broadcast. “One note starting tonight and moving forward, all fighters will return to using the old gloves, not the ones recently introduced,” Gooden stated. The move had been in the works for months, but the UFC needed time to manufacture a sufficient supply of old gloves before fully committing to the change. Until now, pay-per-view events continued using the old gloves, while the newer design was tested on Fight Night cards. Now, with production fully ramped up, the UFC has abandoned the new gloves altogether. The updated gloves, unveiled in April 2024, were designed to improve fighter safety by reducing hand injuries and eye pokes while maintaining dexterity. However, the response from fighters was overwhelmingly negative, and data suggested that knockout rates may have dropped. While the sample size was small, UFC President Dana White ultimately decided to revert to the old gloves. “Because there were a lot of complaints,” White said in November. “We originally created these gloves to stop eye pokes and we had good intentions with them. They didn’t work out. People weren’t happy with them. “So I actually made the decision. Called our chief operating officer Lawrence [Epstein] and said I’m switching the gloves, I want the old gloves back.” One of the loudest critics of the new design was UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who struggled with the fit before his scheduled fight against Stipe Miocic. “I tried them on and I thought they were tight,” Jones explained.  “I used to fit in XL and in the new glove I had to put on a 3XL. The shape, curving your hands like that, they were very uncomfortable for me.” With numerous complaints from fighters and unsatisfactory results, the UFC has now fully reverted to the old gloves. While there is no word on whether the promotion will explore another redesign in the future, for now, the tried-and-true gloves are here to stay.

  • Francis Ngannou Eyes Boxing Return, Sees Knockout Showdown with Deontay Wilder as Likely Next Fight

Francis Ngannou is ready to step back into the boxing ring. The former UFC heavyweight champion and current PFL Superfight titleholder has clarified that his next fight will be in the squared circle, signaling that his boxing journey is far from over. “I will do boxing next,” Ngannou told Sportsbook Review.  “I want to. I’m not done with boxing. It’s not that MMA is easy. It’s the sport that I understand better and I have more experience in, but I say go for boxing.” Ngannou has plenty of options in both MMA and boxing, but his competitive fire is pushing him toward the latter. His recent return to MMA saw him make quick work of Renan Ferreira at PFL Battle of the Giants, his first fight since leaving the UFC. However, Ngannou’s transition to boxing has been a mixed bag. He nearly pulled off an upset against Tyson Fury in his pro boxing debut in October 2023, losing by split decision, but suffered a devastating knockout loss to Anthony Joshua in March 2024. Despite the setback, Ngannou remains determined to compete with the best in the heavyweight boxing division. One name that intrigues Ngannou the most is former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Known for his one-punch knockout power, Wilder presents an exciting and dangerous challenge—one that Ngannou is eager to embrace. “Because there’s an 80 percent chance that somebody will go to sleep,” Ngannou said.  “It will be one or the other.” Ngannou acknowledges the risks but also sees the fight as an opportunity to prove he is one of the hardest hitters in combat sports. He believes both he and Wilder have something to prove, fueling a battle of egos that could result in an explosive finish. “Maybe not in his past two fights, but Deontay Wilder is known as a guy that knocks everybody out or tries to knock you out,” Ngannou explained.  “I’m going against that guy, and I myself can knock someone out. Deep inside me, there is a little bit of ego, like I know I hit harder.” With Ngannou’s desire to continue boxing and Wilder in search of a high-profile fight, a showdown between the two knockout artists seems like an electrifying possibility.

His lateral movement is remarkable, allowing him to dodge punches effectively and create angles for his counter-attacks. Unlike many fighters anchored in a rigid stance, Jaimes glides around the ring, using pivots and slips to remain light on his feet and constantly reposition himself. Jaimes also excels at timing. He has an impressive ability to wait for the perfect moment to strike, often luring opponents into making mistakes. This strategy reveals his intelligence during fights and reflects his calmness under pressure. By reading his opponents, he makes it difficult for them to land clean punches. According to studies, elite boxers are often hit 25% less than their less skilled counterparts due to superior defensive tactics and ring awareness, and Jaimes exemplifies this. Signature Moves and Tactics Jaimes boasts several signature moves that make him a formidable opponent. One of the techniques that stands out is the "Jaimes Jab." This quick and deceptive jab is not just a straightforward punch. Instead, it includes angles and feints, keeping opponents unsure of what will come next. For example, in his fight against Ronaldo Guedes, Jaimes used the Jaimes Jab to set up a combination that led to a knockout in the fifth round. Another impressive technique is Jaimes’ shovel uppercut, which he throws from unconventional angles. This move often catches even experienced fighters off guard. During a bout with Leonel Cortes, Jaimes caught his opponent in a low guard, delivering a powerful uppercut that turned the tide of the match. Additionally, Jaimes employs an intricate defensive strategy that enhances his offensive tactics. His high guard, combined with deft head movement, makes him a hard target to hit. He also uses clinch work skillfully, tying up his opponents to disrupt their rhythm and regain control when necessary. Comparison with Other Top Boxers in His Division To appreciate Jaimes' unique approach, it is useful to compare him with other top fighters in his division, like Vasiliy Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis. Lomachenko is famed for his outstanding footwork and ability to create angles. While Jaimes shares some of these attributes, his unpredictability sets him apart. Instead of relying solely on precise movements, Jaimes uses a fluid, free-flowing style that throws opponents off balance, allowing for more effective execution of his techniques. In contrast, Gervonta Davis is known for his sheer power and explosiveness. Davis can land knockout punches that can end a fight at any moment. However, Jaimes focuses on technique and strategy. In a match-up scenario, Jaimes would likely try to outmaneuver Davis to find openings, rather than solely relying on striking hard. It is this blend of offense and defense that truly distinguishes Jaimes from many of his peers. His unique approach exemplifies the diversity of boxing, showing that success in the sport does not hinge on a single strategy. A Final Look at Jaimes' Future Manuel Jaimes does not only excel due to his skills; he also embodies a revolutionary boxing style that balances tradition and innovation. With his keen sense of timing, agility, and strategic thinking, he sets himself apart as a dynamic force in his division. He continually captivates audiences and challenges opponents with moves like the Jaimes Jab and his surprising uppercut. In a sport often defined by brute strength, Jaimes demonstrates that finesse and creativity can be just as vital. As his boxing career progresses, fans and analysts will watch closely, eager to see how he adapts and evolves, constantly reshaping what it means to be a boxer.
