Henry Cejudo has announced a major change to his corner for his upcoming fight against Merab Dvalishvili, revealing that longtime coach Eric Albarracin will not be in his corner. Cejudo, who is taking his bout with Dvalishvili very seriously, has even gone as far as to say that he would likely retire if he cannot beat the Georgian fighter.
The former two-division UFC champion returned to MMA last year but faced disappointment when he was defeated by then-UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling via split decision. This loss prompted Cejudo to make a significant change to his training camp, which included parting ways with Albarracin.
In a video capturing the emotional moment, Cejudo expressed his gratitude to Albarracin, acknowledging their long history together, but also emphasized the need to step out of his comfort zone for this camp.
“Sometimes you are too close to somebody and people just get too comfortable,” Cejudo explained.
Albarracin responded with understanding, reaffirming their shared goal of Cejudo becoming the greatest combat sports athlete of all time.
“This is why this man is the GOAT coach,” Cejudo praised Albarracin, highlighting his selflessness.
Despite Albarracin not being in his corner for this fight, Cejudo expressed deep respect and admiration for his former coach, recognizing his instrumental role in his career.
