UFC on ABC 3 results, highlights: Lauren Murphy batters Miesha Tate

UFC on ABC 3 on July 16th at the UBS Arena in New York put on a great show on the card after the bad luck on the card. Former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate (19-9) makes her flyweight debut against Lauren Murphy (16-5) on the night's main card. Both fighters were trying to bounce back from their previous losses.


Former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate and Lauren Murphy were featured in a thrilling women's flyweight bout. In which Murphy spoiled Tate's flyweight debut in a big way, ending Tate's ground game and putting him on the feet. After three rounds of action, Murphy won a unanimous decision to move closer to another flyweight title shot.


Tate (19-9 MMA) decided to drop down to flyweight following her unanimous decision loss to Ketlen Vieira in November 2021. That loss was preceded by a TKO victory over fellow veteran Marion Renew in her return to the Octagon. .


Meanwhile, Lauren Murphy (16-5 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since suffering a TKO loss to flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko. The loss ended a five-fight winning streak for the woman known as "Lucky."


Murphy and Tate fought a bloody 3-round battle to open Saturday's main card. A sensational skill could be seen in both. In an effort to win, both fighters inflicted as much damage on each other as they could. Just as blood was dripping from Murphy's jaw and Tate's nose in the first round, so was the case in Round 2 when "Cupcake" left Murphy with a swollen cut under her right eye. While on the other hand, Murphy also appeared to break Tate's orbital bone as she was tackled. Round 3 Tate kicks the middle with two minutes left, and there's a jab behind him. With 90 seconds left, a little firefight breaks out. Murphy shoots for a takedown, and Tate tries a guillotine choke. It's not there, but they stay tied. Murphy lands a knee to the body with a minute left. They break up with 45 seconds left, and Tate probably needs to land a Hail Mary. It's not coming.







Result: Lauren Murphy def. Miesha Tate via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)


After the win over Tate, Murphy called the winner of the upcoming flyweight match between Jessica Andrade and Manon Fiorot for their next fight. Her performance drew a lot of backlash from her fellow fighters on social media.


Murphy, 38, remains a big part of the UFC flyweight title picture and could be one step closer to another shot against Shevchenko.
