George Hardwick, the reigning Cage Warriors champion, will go head-to-head with Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady, the current Fury FC champion, in a battle that promises fireworks inside the octagon. Scheduled for August 15th, Dana White's Contender Series 58 will showcase the meeting of these two formidable champions. The matchup was confirmed by a reliable source, following an initial report by MMA Mania. George Hardwick has been on an impressive tear, winning his last eight fights. Meanwhile, Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady, hailing from Fortis MMA, has been on a winning streak of his own. • Islam Makhachev Challenges Jon Jones' Pound-for-Pound Ranking

In a heated response to Jon Jones' recent ascent to the top of the UFC Pound-for-Pound rankings, Islam Makhachev, the rising lightweight star, voiced his disbelief and frustration. Makhachev, fresh off a successful title defense against Alexander Volkanovski, expressed his conviction that he, not Jones, should hold the coveted title of the world's best fighter. At UFC 284 in Perth, Australia, Makhachev and Volkanovski clashed in a monumental battle for pound-for-pound supremacy. Despite an intense back-and-forth affair, Makhachev emerged victorious via unanimous decision, solidifying his status as the lightweight champion. However, to his surprise, the rankings remained unchanged, with Volkanovski retaining the No. 2 spot and Makhachev settling for No. 3. Makhachev's frustration reached its peak when Jon Jones, a three-time light heavyweight champion and widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in history, returned to the octagon at UFC 285. Making his heavyweight debut, Jones swiftly submitted Ciryl Gane, earning himself the vacant title and reclaiming the No. 1 pound-for-pound ranking. Yet, for Makhachev, the circumstances surrounding Jones' rise to the top were far from satisfactory. "This is bullshit, brother," Makhachev passionately expressed to Daniel Cormier. "How can Jon Jones be No. 1? He beat a guy who isn't a champion. This guy (Gane) doesn't have a belt, and they put him at No. 1 pound-for-pound. This is bullshit. People who truly understand MMA know who the best fighter in the world is. Don't call me the lightweight champion. Call me the pound-for-pound best fighter." While Makhachev's sentiment may stem from his unwavering confidence, his argument holds weight. With an impressive record boasting just a single loss in over 25 fights, both he and Jones have established themselves as dominant forces in the UFC. However, Makhachev has yet to venture beyond the lightweight division, whereas Jones has now conquered a new weight class. Undeterred by the circumstances, Makhachev envisions a future in which he becomes a dual-division champion. Expressing his desire to eventually challenge welterweight contender Leon Edwards, Makhachev believes that once he secures a second belt, he will rightfully be recognized as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. "This is my dream, and I'm certain I can be a double champion," Makhachev proclaimed with determination. "I can defeat Leon Edwards. He may have displayed good takedown defense, but it'll be different with me. I can strike with him, I can grapple with him, wrestle him. Anywhere the fight goes, I can beat this guy. Just give me one chance, and that's it. Perhaps once I win a second belt, they'll acknowledge me as the best pound-for-pound." As the debate rages on regarding who truly deserves the distinction of the world's top fighter, Islam Makhachev continues to train, prepare, and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to prove his worth in multiple weight classes. One thing is for certain: Makhachev's confidence and unwavering belief in his abilities are the hallmarks of a fighter who will stop at nothing to cement his legacy as the pound-for-pound king.

  • Max Holloway interested in moving upto 155 pounds

After dropping his trilogy fight against Alexander Volkanovski, Holloway made his competitive return in April, defeating Arnold Allen by unanimous decision. The only thing on Holloway's mind right now is moving up to lightweight, maybe to take on the victor of the forthcoming bout for the "BMF" title between Poirier and Justin Gaethje. “For sure, there’s the other belts.” Holloway said. “... But it’s always better to go to a different division while you’re holding a belt. That’s just what it is. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see how July pans out, we’ll see how my next fight pans out, and we’ll see. Who knows? We saw that fun BMF belt, with Gaethje and Poirier. Me and Poirier fought two times [already] and people keep harassing me about Gaethje anyway. Although there hasn't been any progress made on that front officially as of yet, Holloway thinks that fight—a matchup with fellow living star Chan Sung Jung—will be scheduled next.

  • Israel Adesanya open to cameo roles in WWE

Despite their differences, mixed martial arts and sports entertainment have always been related, owing to athletes who move between the two. A number of mixed martial artists have taken the other route in addition to those like Brock Lesnar, who later won the heavyweight title in the UFC, Bobby Lashley, and Dave Bautista who transitioned from professional wrestling to the cage. While Ronda Rousey is likely the most well-known example, that group also includes former UFC fighters Matt Riddle and Shayna Baszler. More future cross-overs are being discussed as a result of Endeavor's recent acquisition of the world's top pro wrestling organisation and decision to combine the WWE and UFC under one financial roof. Israel Adesanya responded to major WWE figure Paul Heyman's recent social media post in which he mentioned "The Last Stylebender" in the context of a current storyline-driven statement during a recent interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. "The only thing is, I like to be the author of my own story," Adesanya said. "I'll do a couple cameos. I'll come from under the ring or whatever, just appear... But to be a guy that is in there and then have someone write my story, and I'm this, I'm that; I feel like it's just not my forte. But I'll do a few cameos." Adesanya had previously hinted that he may make a WWE move "down the track," but he has apparently made the decision to stay out of the other sporting arena for the time being.

  • Linares wants Rolly's title.

Ex world champion the legendary Jorge Linares (47-8-0) says he still has a little left in his gas tank to take out Rolando Romero and get his WBA world title. Rolando Romero (15-1-0) is the current WBA sĂșperlightweight champion, he won it in a very controversial way when he fought Ismael Barroso who put hands on him and even dropped him. Thats what gives Linares confidence he can take Rolly because he believes he is a better fighter than Barroso and Romero's level isnt the same and doesnt consider Rolly that dangerous anymore.

  • Andre Ward is happy to help Nate Diaz for his fight against Jake Paul

The encouragement of a Hall of Fame fighter is reportedly something Nate Diaz will rely on before his match with Jake Paul. The eight-round fight is scheduled to take place on August 5 at the American Airlines Centre in Dallas, Texas, between former UFC fighter Diaz and YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul. The 38-year-old Diaz, a definite but reasonable underdog, will receive some helpful advice to make sure his debut boxing contest is a success. Andre Ward, a close friend and fellow product of Northern California, made a hint in a recent interview that he will be helping Diaz in some way to be ready for Paul. The International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York, inducted Ward, a two-division champion from Oakland, California, last year. “I mean, not to go to deep into it but he (Diaz) has reached out and we gon’ connect at a certain point, when the fight’s getting close,” Ward said on The MMA Hour. “But that’s my brother, man. I respect what he’s done for Stockton, in this area, him and his brother. It’s gon’ be a great fight” Ward, who works now as a commentator for ESPN, cautioned people not to judge Diaz by the way he looks working the mitts. “People look at that mitt session that Nate had, and they just misread the play, man,” Ward said. “Those type of shots—they don’t look pretty, but they keep coming, different angles. You know, he’s got some miles on him, he’s been around for a long time. He needs to show me he can take a shot from Jake Paul because Jake Paul has a natural right hand, it’s got power on it. But if he can take that right hand from Jake Paul, it’s gon’ be a tougher fight than people realize because Nate’s gon’ keep coming.”
