Colby Covington Claims Dustin Poirier Fled from Confrontation at Florida Restaurant
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Colby Covington dropped a bombshell about a real-life encounter with Dustin Poirier. The outspoken UFC welterweight, known for his polarizing persona, claimed that Poirier, his former American Top Team training partner, "ran away" from him during a chance meeting at a Florida restaurant.
When asked if he had run into Poirier since the two live near each other in Florida, Covington didn't hold back. "That’s funny you say that," he began. "I crossed paths with him about three months ago at NYY Steakhouse, Coconut Creek Casino, which is in the same city he trains at, the gym. He came by the steakhouse and I looked at him eye-to-eye and I was like, ‘What’s up b****? It’s on sight? Do something, say something,’ and he just walked right out of the restaurant because he knows."
Covington continued, painting a vivid picture of the confrontation. "You can talk big to the media, you can talk big in front of a camera, but when you’re in front of someone’s face and you feel their energy and you know what they’re capable of, that’s when it’s a different story. Now you can’t run your mouth, now you can’t do anything. If you wanted to do something, he could have done something. I stood up, I looked him right in the eyes and he walked right out of the restaurant like a good little b****."
The tension between Covington and Poirier is well-documented, with both fighters exchanging verbal jabs in the media over the years. Poirier, who has spoken about taking one more fight before retiring, might have just found his perfect swan song opponent in Covington.
Fight fans would be thrilled to see these two settle their differences inside the Octagon. A bout between Covington and Poirier would undoubtedly be a highly anticipated and dramatic showdown, given their shared history and Covington's knack for stirring the pot.
As Poirier considers his final fight, could he be eyeing a grudge match with Covington? Only time will tell, but Fight.TV is here for it!
