  • Gegard Mousasi Sues Bellator and PFL for $15 Million Over Breach of Contract and Monopsony Claims

Former middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi has filed a lawsuit in New Jersey against Bellator and its new owners, the PFL, seeking over $15 million in damages. Mousasi claims Bellator and PFL executives, including co-founder Donn Davis, CEO Peter Murray, and matchmaker Mike Kogan, breached his contract and engaged in anti-competitive practices that severely impacted his career. Mousasi signed a contract with Bellator in 2017, which he extended in 2020 and amended in 2023. According to the lawsuit, he was guaranteed a purse of $150,000 for his first four fights, with subsequent bouts guaranteeing him $200,000. Additionally, he was entitled to a $50,000 finish bonus for wins via knockout or submission, alongside a $600,000 promotional fee per fight. After his first four fights, Mousasi’s earnings per bout were expected to reach up to $850,000. The lawsuit details how Mousasi fought Fabian Edwards in 2023 despite a significant injury because he feared being sidelined indefinitely. After that bout, his concerns grew as Bellator was sold to PFL, and communication with the promotion became sparse. He expressed his frustration earlier this year: "The problem is we cannot get ahold of them. They refuse to answer us back. I’ve been training, I’ve been ready." Mousasi's complaints include being sidelined, despite having a contract that guaranteed fights. His manager made numerous attempts to communicate with PFL executives, but the situation remained unresolved. In May 2024, PFL and Bellator announced his release after Mousasi threatened legal action. In his lawsuit, Mousasi accuses Bellator and PFL of breaching the implied covenant of good faith and engaging in "anti-competitive monopsony conduct."  He also claims that he was misclassified as an independent contractor rather than an employee, further violating his rights. The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages of at least $15 million, punitive damages, and attorney fees.

  • Dana White Vows to Overhaul UFC Rankings System Amid Frustration

Dana White, the UFC CEO, has expressed his growing frustration with the UFC rankings system and is determined to implement changes. The tipping point for White’s dissatisfaction came after Khalil Rountree Jr. retained his No. 8 position in the light heavyweight rankings, despite a closely contested fight against Alex Pereira at UFC 307, which Rountree was winning on the scorecards before getting stopped. “If you look at who Pereira has beat, and how he’s beat them leading up to this fight, [Rountree] was winning on the scorecards when he got stopped,” White said. “He was ahead on the scorecards. Stayed in the pocket, put on one of the greatest fights anybody has ever seen, and he stays at No. 8.” This incident reignited White's longstanding dissatisfaction with the current ranking system, which he previously suggested could benefit from AI technology. This time, however, White seems serious about making changes and has a meeting scheduled with a group proposing a solution. "I can’t handle incompetence. I can’t take it anymore. It’s driving me crazy. And I can’t let people that I don’t believe know what the f*ck they’re talking about deal with the rankings anymore,” White added. "The media will no longer control the rankings in the UFC." White has acknowledged the importance of rankings in UFC matchmaking, though they are not the only factor. He and his matchmaking team, including Mick Maynard, Sean Shelby, and Hunter Campbell, do consider rankings when planning fights. Despite this, White emphasized that the UFC itself should not directly control the rankings to avoid bias. “I don’t think that it’s right that we would do the rankings," White said.  "No matter how unbiased you try to be, it’s impossible... There’s things that I don’t want in our hands at all. Not mine, not Mick’s, not Sean’s, not Hunter’s, nobody. There has to be a third party or AI or something that does the rankings." As White seeks a solution, he remains hopeful that a more reliable and fair system will be introduced soon. This would allow for a more objective ranking process that doesn’t interfere with UFC operations or introduce bias.

  • Ian Machado Garry Calls Out Covington: He’s Avoiding Me Like the Plague

UFC rising star Ian Machado Garry is ready to step up and face one of the biggest names in the welterweight division—Colby Covington. However, according to Garry, the only thing holding up the fight is Covington himself. Garry, undefeated with a 15-0 record, recently shared on social media that the UFC offered him a fight with Covington a month ago. Garry accepted immediately but claims he hasn't heard back from Covington.   “A month ago, I was offered a fight with Colby Covington. It took me 20 seconds to respond to the email saying, ‘Yes, I’m in.’ A month later, we’ve still got no response from Colby," Garry said in an Instagram video.  "He’s avoiding me like the plague." Covington, a former UFC interim champion and three-time title challenger, hasn’t fought since his loss to Leon Edwards in December 2023. Despite Garry’s callouts, Covington has denied ever receiving an offer for the fight, stating he’s focused on securing bigger matchups. But for Garry, this silence speaks volumes. Garry has been on a tear in 2024, securing wins over Geoff Neal at UFC 298 in February and a striking victory against Michael Page at UFC 303 in June. Now, with his sights set on Covington, Garry is determined to make the fight happen, putting the pressure back on Covington to respond. Is Covington avoiding Garry, or is he aiming for other opportunities? For now, Garry remains confident that the ball is in Covington’s court—and he’s ready to make a statement.

  • Sylvester Stallone’s Sparring Sessions with Boxing Legends

Most people know Sylvester Stallone as the iconic Rocky Balboa, the fictional boxing champion who has inspired generations. But behind the scenes of his films, Stallone’s dedication to realism led him to spar with some of the most feared heavyweight boxers in history. In a candid interview, Stallone revealed that his sparring partners weren’t actors—they were actual legends like Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and Earnie Shavers. These experiences weren’t just for show; they were brutal and dangerous, providing Stallone a firsthand understanding of the punishing nature of professional boxing. "I sparred with [Muhammad] Ali, and Joe Frazier gave me eleven stitches. That was in about two seconds," Stallone told reporter Alan Ross. Frazier, known for his relentless, forward-pressure fighting style, didn't hold back when trading blows with the actor, giving Stallone a taste of what made Frazier one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. At one point, Stallone even considered casting Frazier as Clubber Lang in Rocky III , saying, “Let me use a real fighter.” However, after feeling the full force of Frazier’s fists, Stallone reconsidered. "That’s not a good idea," he admitted, realizing that sharing the ring with a fighter of Frazier’s caliber—even for movie purposes—was a risk far greater than he was willing to take. Stallone’s sparring sessions weren’t limited to Frazier. He also found himself facing Earnie Shavers, a man widely regarded as one of the hardest punchers in boxing history. Stallone recounted a terrifying experience with Shavers: “Earnie Shavers literally almost beat me to death without trying. [He was] wearing 20-ounce gloves. Imagine if he was angry!” Despite using oversized, heavily padded gloves designed to soften blows, Shavers’ power was overwhelming. If this was Shavers holding back, it's chilling to imagine what could have happened if he went full force. Stallone’s desire for realism in his films brought him face-to-face with the stark reality that professional fighters are a different breed. "They don’t know how to stop pulling their punches. That’s the whole point. They think I’ll follow through," Stallone explained. Unlike actors, boxers train their entire lives to finish the fight with a knockout, and when they step into the ring—even in a sparring setting—the instinct to unleash their power is hard to suppress. It’s a reminder of the raw, lethal power these heavyweights possess, even in casual exchanges. While the Rocky  franchise’s training montages and fight scenes are legendary in their own right, Stallone’s off-screen sparring sessions with heavyweight champions and contenders added an unmatched authenticity to his portrayal of the underdog boxer. His real-life encounters with legends like Ali, Frazier, and Shavers didn’t just prepare him for the role—they gave him an unfiltered look at the brutality of the sport. So, the next time you watch Rocky taking punches in the ring, remember that Stallone’s grit and determination weren’t limited to the silver screen. He knew what it felt like to take a real punch from a heavyweight. And if there’s one thing he learned, it’s that even 20-ounce gloves can’t soften the blows from some of the hardest hitters in boxing history.

  • Dana White Unleashes Fury at UFC Rankings Panel After UFC 307

Dana White finds himself in the familiar position of lashing out at the UFC rankings panel, this time in the aftermath of UFC 307. The latest rankings update, released days after light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira successfully defended his title against Khalil Rountree Jr., has sparked a fresh round of controversy — and White isn't having it. While Pereira retained his title in a hard-fought battle, Rountree Jr.'s gutsy performance made waves in the MMA community. Many fans and analysts lauded "The War Horse" for his relentless attack in the early rounds, pushing Pereira to his absolute limits. It seemed inevitable that Rountree Jr. would move up in the rankings after such a showing, despite ultimately coming up short in his quest for UFC gold. But the update came, and Rountree Jr. remained locked at the #8 spot in the light heavyweight division — a decision that ignited fury in Dana White. White, known for his no-holds-barred approach, immediately took to social media to express his dissatisfaction, particularly targeting the UFC rankings panel. In his Instagram Stories, the UFC president did not hold back, calling out the panel for failing to recognize Rountree Jr.'s effort. “The morons strike again,” White ranted. “Khalil Rountree fights that badass fight against Pereira, and the morons rank him #8, keeping him at #8. Literally, this week, I have a meeting to try to fix the rankings and get all these no-nothing motherf**kers out of it. So hopefully, this week I get this fixed.” White’s comments come amid growing frustration from fighters, fans, and pundits alike who have questioned the integrity of the UFC's ranking system. Over the past several months, the rankings have become a lightning rod for criticism, with accusations of inconsistency and bias thrown at the panel responsible for the weekly updates. Some believe the rankings are often disconnected from in-cage performances, with fan favorites or marketable fighters seemingly benefitting from leniency, while rising stars and workhorses, like Rountree Jr., struggle to get recognition. The debate over how rankings are calculated has only intensified with recent events. Rountree’s powerful performance at UFC 307 should have been a defining moment in his career, yet the panel's decision to keep him stagnant has drawn significant backlash. Many believe that this marks yet another instance where fighters who push the pace and deliver thrilling bouts are left undervalued in the rankings. White, not one to shy away from these issues, has vowed to revamp the system, indicating that change is coming. He suggested that a meeting with UFC brass this week could lead to a complete overhaul of the ranking process, with new voices or, as he put it, "getting all these no-nothing motherf**kers out of it." It remains to be seen what changes White will implement, but it's clear that the UFC rankings system, long under scrutiny, is once again at the center of a heated debate. For Khalil Rountree Jr., the hope is that his near-upset against Alex Pereira will one day be properly recognized, perhaps under a more transparent and fair ranking system.

  • Bellator Champion Johnny Eblen Embraces Change After Fight Rescheduling

Bellator middleweight champion Johnny Eblen faced an unexpected twist just days before his scheduled title defense against Fabian Edwards. With only 11 days remaining before the Bellator London card, Eblen’s fight was suddenly moved without any clear explanation. Instead of facing Edwards in London, Eblen will now defend his title at a PFL pay-per-view event in Saudi Arabia on October 19.They just moved the fight, Eblen told. “Not sure exactly what happened. I was prepared to fight in London and I was actually pretty excited for it. But you know they moved it, I’m a company man so I did what they wanted me to do. They took care of me though, so there’s no issue and now I’m ready to go fight in Saudi Arabia.” Although the change disrupted his initial preparation, Eblen quickly adapted. He adjusted his training schedule by taking some time off and resuming light training before ramping back up for the new fight date. While the shift in location threw a wrench in plans for friends and family who had planned to attend the London event, Eblen is keeping his focus on the fight, not the location. “It changed a lot,” Eblen shared. “Like I said, they took care of me. I’m not having any issues with it. I took a couple of weeks off, did some light training and then I’m going to peak again [Oct. 19] and I leave in two and a half [weeks].” Despite the challenges, Eblen remains unfazed. Whether it’s facing an opponent he knocked out last year or competing in a different country, the champion is ready to do his job and get the win. “They’re just going to put somebody in front of me and that’s the person that I’ve got to fight, regardless of who it is… As long as the check clears, I’m good.”

  • Takeru Eyes Rodtang Showdown After Electrifying Comeback Win

Takeru Segawa is on a mission, and his target is clear—reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, Rodtang Jitmuangnon. Following his bounce-back victory at ONE Friday Fights 81 in September, the Japanese kickboxing sensation has his sights firmly set on the Thai superstar, eager to settle unfinished business. “I came to ONE to fight Rodtang, and if I didn’t win this fight, if I didn’t get through this, I would have had no quality to be in ONE,” Takeru stated after his latest triumph. In a thrilling flyweight kickboxing bout, Takeru showed his resilience, recovering from an early knockdown to stop Thant Zin in the second round. The victory not only marked his return to form but also erased the disappointment of his previous loss to Superlek Kiatmoo9 in January. The crowd at Lumpinee Stadium erupted as Takeru secured his redemption win, making a powerful statement about his readiness for the next challenge. However, Takeru's win was not the highlight of the night. Immediately after his victory, he wasted no time in calling out Rodtang, who was seated ringside. The tension soared as the two warriors came face-to-face in the ring, engaging in a heated stare-down that sent the audience into a frenzy. The showdown between the two has been brewing for months, with their original fight scheduled earlier this year. Unfortunately, Rodtang had to pull out due to an injury, leading Takeru to face Superlek instead in a losing effort for the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Championship. Now, with Takeru back in the win column, the stage is set for a blockbuster clash with Rodtang. But before this dream fight can materialize, Rodtang has his test ahead at ONE 169 on November 8, where he will defend his title in a rematch against Jacob Smith. As he waits for his chance, Takeru is rooting for Rodtang to emerge victorious. “I hope you win your next fight, and I’ll be waiting here in the ring,” Takeru confidently declared.
