- Oscar De La Hoya Questions Canelo Alvarez's Performance Despite Clear Victory
Oscar De La Hoya, the former boxer and promoter of Canelo Alvarez, has expressed his dissatisfaction with Alvarez's recent unanimous decision win against John Ryder. Despite Alvarez's dominant display, which included knocking down Ryder and controlling the fight, De La Hoya expected a more decisive performance from the Mexican star, especially considering it was his first fight on home soil in almost 12 years. De La Hoya's comments have raised questions about Alvarez's future and the potential for a reunion with his former promoter. A Victory That Falls Short Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champion, showcased his skills and dominated John Ryder throughout their bout. Alvarez busted Ryder's nose in the second round, dropped him in the fifth, and controlled the fight for the majority of the rounds. However, De La Hoya, speaking from his Golden Boy Promotions headquarters, expressed his disappointment with the performance, stating that he expected more from Alvarez, especially given the caliber of his opponent. The Desire for a Definitive Finish De La Hoya emphasized that when a fighter has his opponent hurt, he should finish the job decisively. He believed that Alvarez had the opportunity to secure a more conclusive victory, and the 50,000 fans in attendance in Guadalajara expected nothing less. De La Hoya's comments suggest that he holds high standards for Alvarez and believes the Mexican star should have delivered a more emphatic performance against Ryder. The Bivol Rematch and Alvarez's Future Despite suffering only the second loss of his career against WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol last year, Alvarez remains determined to secure a rematch with the Russian under the same terms. However, Bivol has expressed his desire to challenge Alvarez at the super middleweight limit of 168 pounds instead of the light heavyweight division. This disagreement creates uncertainty regarding Alvarez's future path. Reuniting with De La Hoya: Potential Opponents If Canelo Alvarez were to reconsider his options and reconnect with his former promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, there are potential opponents on the horizon. De La Hoya mentioned Jaime Munguia and Gilberto Ramirez as potential opponents for Alvarez. While De La Hoya kept his plans undisclosed, he hinted at having a strategy in mind for Alvarez's future. The Uncertainty Ahead The differing perspectives between Alvarez and De La Hoya raise questions about the direction of Alvarez's career. While De La Hoya appears critical of Alvarez's recent performance, highlighting concerns about the Mexican star's age, it remains unclear how Alvarez will navigate his career moving forward. Alvarez's current promoter, Eddie Hearn, will continue to guide his next moves, but the possibility of a reunion with De La Hoya adds an intriguing dimension to the equation. Conclusion Oscar De La Hoya's recent remarks regarding Canelo Alvarez's victory over John Ryder have sparked discussions about Alvarez's future and the potential for a reunion with his former promoter. De La Hoya expressed disappointment with Alvarez's performance, expecting a more convincing result against Ryder. While Alvarez remains focused on a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, the disagreement over weight class adds uncertainty to his next steps. Whether Alvarez pursues De La Hoya's proposed opponents or continues under the guidance of Eddie Hearn, the future of the Mexican superstar in the boxing world remains both captivating and uncertain.
- Colby Covington eyes welterweight matchup with weight bully Islam Makhachev
Colby Covington is sure that he will win every time he competes against welterweight champion Leon Edwards and wear the belt around his waist. When that occurs, "Chaos" will try to upend things even more. The No. 1 contender for Edwards, Covington, told MMA Fighting that he hopes the fight may happen in August. If Covington were to win the undisputed welterweight belt, lightweight champion Islam Makhachev would be a prospective opponent that would intrigue him. Covington has previously addressed a prospective bout with Makhachev, but when asked if he and the UFC have previously talked it, the 35-year-old claims they have — whether it be at welterweight or lightweight. “I think it’s a very realistic possibility,” Covington said of a fight with Makhachev. “There were conversations backstage in the past that we had about [a fight with Makhachev], and if I could make 155 because I’m not a big 170 [pounder]. I don’t cut much weight – 15-20 pounds max if I’m just completely eating as much as I can stuff in my face. “So I know we probably walk around at the same weight, he’s just a weight bully. He’s cutting all that weight to get the advantage at lightweight because there’s no wrestlers, there’s no guys that can give him any trouble. So of course, he wants to be in that division, the same division his daddy Khabib [Nurmagomedov] used to own. “There’s a reason Khabib never came to 170, fought at welterweight because King Colby’s here and he knows I’ll stop his wrestling and punch him in the face until he quits.”
- Eddie Hearn Faces the Challenge of Meeting Canelo Alvarez's Demands Amidst Potential Rival Suitors
Eddie Hearn Faces the Challenge of Meeting Canelo Alvarez's Demands Amidst Potential Rival Suitors Eddie Hearn, the renowned boxing promoter and head of Matchroom, finds himself in a precarious position as he attempts to satisfy the lofty requests of Mexican boxing sensation Canelo Alvarez. With Alvarez's recent victory over John Ryder, his sights are now set on a rematch with light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol. However, if Hearn fails to deliver on this fight or other appealing options, Alvarez has made it clear that he is open to exploring offers from rival boxing outfits. This article delves into the intricate dynamics between Alvarez, Hearn, and the potential suitors vying for the boxing superstar's attention. Alvarez's Dominance Under Matchroom While technically operating as a free agent, Canelo Alvarez has predominantly chosen to collaborate with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom in recent years. The partnership has been fruitful, with Alvarez headlining six main events under the Matchroom banner. The most recent, a commanding points victory over John Ryder in front of over 50,000 fans in his hometown of Guadalajara, solidified Alvarez's standing as the undisputed 168-pound champion. The Pursuit of Dmitry Bivol Rematch Alvarez's next goal is a highly anticipated rematch with light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol. In their previous encounter, Bivol emerged victorious via unanimous decision, marking Alvarez's second unsuccessful attempt at securing a light heavyweight title. Hearn had initially scheduled Bivol-Alvarez for September 16 in Las Vegas, aiming to deliver the rematch that both fighters and fans eagerly await. Challenges in Meeting Alvarez's Requests However, negotiations between the camps of Alvarez and Bivol have hit a snag due to conflicting demands regarding weight classes. Bivol insists on a rematch at 168 pounds, where Alvarez holds multiple belts, while Alvarez desires a fight at 175 pounds, the weight class where Bivol currently reigns as the WBA champion. Hearn recognizes the importance of meeting Alvarez's expectations and has made it clear that if the Bivol fight cannot be arranged or fails to satisfy Alvarez's desires, other options will be explored. Hearn's Dilemma and Potential Suitors Eddie Hearn acknowledges the possibility of Alvarez seeking alternative options if his demands are not met. The boxing landscape includes rival promotions such as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), led by influential figure Al Haymon. PBC promotes notable fighters at 168 pounds, including David Benavidez and David Morrell, who could present intriguing opportunities for Alvarez. Even Jermall Charlo, a middleweight champion and another client of PBC, has hinted at a potential move to the super middleweight division, adding to the competition for Alvarez's attention. The Need to Deliver For Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, the challenge lies in fulfilling Canelo Alvarez's wishes and securing the fights he desires. Hearn emphasizes that the instructions he receives from Alvarez and his trainer, Eddy Reynoso, are precise and that his role is to bring those requests to fruition. While talks regarding the Bivol rematch are ongoing, Hearn and his team must work diligently to ensure they can provide what Alvarez seeks. Conclusion As Canelo Alvarez continues to assert his dominance in the boxing world, the task of meeting his lofty requests falls squarely on the shoulders of Eddie Hearn and Matchroom. The potential of Alvarez exploring options with rival promotions if his demands are not met adds an extra layer of complexity to the situation. Hearn's ability to secure the desired fights, particularly the highly anticipated rematch with Dmitry Bivol, will determine the course of Alvarez's future and the path his boxing career takes. For now, negotiations continue,
- Dana White sent a heartfelt message to an MMA fighter who lost her life in a car accident
UFC president Dana White has sent out a touching tribute to MMA fighter Shalie Lipp who was tragically killed in a car accident. The 21-year-old was an aspiring combat sports artist and had accumulated a 3-2 amateur record through ehr career. She had recently returned from a training trip in Thailand where she was preparing for a fight against Natalie Gage on May 20. However, earlier this month, news of her tragic passing spread after she and her coach Joseph Trottier got into a car accident in Minnesota. The others luckily walked away with only minor injuries from the multi-car collision, however, Lipp sadly passed away as a result of her injuries. The MMA community had shared tributes to the young fighter, and now one has come in from the UFC boss. He took to Instagram to post a picture of Lipp, with the caption: “Shalie Lipp, I KNOW YOUR NAME…RIP.” White then went on to explain that the fighter’s journal had been discovered by her mother and that at the end of every page would be the phrase: “Dana White will know my name.” While it, unfortunately, came under tragic circumstances, the 53-year-old let her know that he had learnt of her story. He added in the comments: “She is a 21 year old amateur MMA fighter who just passed away in a car accident. “She was supposed to fight May 20th and just got home from training in Thailand. “Her mother found her journal and I guess at the end of every entry she would write “Dana White will know my name.” “Lauren Murphy called and told Mick Maynard the story and it broke my heart. My condolences to her family and friends.” The young star had been promoting her upcoming bout on Instagram, just a week before her untimely passing. She wrote: “I would love it if you guys came out and supported me so close to my hometown! Bring some friends, have a couple drinks, and enjoy some violence! See you there.” Her trainer, Eric Sweeney, paid tribute to the ‘wonderful human’. “My heart is absolutely broken. You were such a wonderful human, full of promise and drive,” he said. “One of the few people I've ever met that was truly reaching for greatness. And I will never forget you. “It is beyond my mind's capacity today to think that I won't see you this week ...or ever again. We were just cracking the code. “Being your friend will change me forever. It already has. Thank you for all of the moments. “All of our discussions, both personal and professional. “The laughs, the tears, and every emotion in between. I will remember all of them. I am grateful for all of them.”
- Carl Froch thinks Anthony Joshua is past his best and hasn't got any real legacy
Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch does not believe Anthony Joshua needs to retire from the sport - but he does feel the British superstar is on the slide. Joshua saw action in early April, when he picked up a twelve round unanimous decision win over contender Jermaine Franklin. A two-time former heavyweight champion, Joshua used the win over Franklin to snap a two-fight losing streak to unified beltholder Oleksandr Usyk. While Joshua has amassed a massive fortune of money, Froch doesn't see a true defining legacy for the big heavyweight. Froch doesn't understand Joshua's true motivation to continue fighting. "Joshua doesn’t need to retire but I would say that AJ is past his best and on the slide. I don’t know where his motivation is now. It can’t be money, he says it is but he’s made a fortune. So when you’ve earned so much, how much do you need? That’s one of the reasons I retired, because I’d earned enough money and I thought I’ve got everything I want, so why am I going to get punched in the head and risk getting injured? I’ve got kids and there’s risk and reward," Froch explained to Sporting Post. "AJ has had a fantastic career financially, but maybe it niggles him that he’s probably got no real legacy. He’s not in the Hall of Fame, unlike the Cobra! Not to have a dig at him but you have to look at yourself as a fighter and ask, why am I in the game? Am I in the game to make a fortune? Of course I am if I can do it and be one of the lucky ones, one of the few who get out the game financially free with their health intact and he’s done that. "But he’s not going to go down as an all-time great with the fights he’s had, losing to Ruiz and back-to-back fights with Usyk. What does he want? What’s he fighting for? He said money, but money is not motivation when you’re fighting, trust me. You don’t think about money when you walk to that ring. If you do it’s a bad attitude and you don’t perform, you perform from wanting to be world champion and wanting to perform for yourself and fans to get a legacy, to be a Hall of Famer, you have to be in love with the sport." Joshua is now being set up to make a comeback in July or August. Additionally, a December showdown in Saudi Arabia with former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is being discussed.
- Filipino Boxer passes away after suffering fatal damage in the ring
Prospective BANTAMWEIGHT Kenneth Egano passed away at the young age of 22. The Filipino boxer from General Santos City competed against Jason Facularin on Saturday, May 6. While the results were being announced at the Imus Sports Gymnasium in Cavite, Egano, who had won on points, slumped in his corner. His countryman and hero Manny Pacquiao promoted the event as part of the weekly boxing TV show Blow by Blow. From the location, Egano was transported to the Imus Doctors Hospital. After a brain haemorrhage was found, the boxer was put into a coma. The 23-year-old Facularin expressed his sorrow over his opponent's passing on Facebook. “I didn’t expect that this will happen when we did our best. Why did it happen to us? Sorry that it happened. I hope you’re in a good place.” Blow by Blow also released a statement on Facebook, per Aric John Sy Cua of The Manila Times: "The whole Blow by Blow family is deeply saddened by the news that one of our beloved fighters, Kenneth Egano, has joined our creator [on Wednesday] afternoon. Kenneth was one of Blow by Blow's best young pugilists and had the potential to be a future champion." Egano had a record of 7-1 with three knockouts.
- Is Donald Cerrone coming back to MMA?
Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone, a beloved UFC fighter who retired last year, is now enjoying his retirement from mixed martial arts. In the latter two years of his MMA career, Cerrone has lost six fights, with the "Cowboy" being knocked out in four of them. On May 4, 2019, at UFC Fight Night 151, he defeated veteran UFC lightweight Al Iaquinta by a majority decision to earn his most recent victory. At the age of 39, Cerrone retired from mixed martial arts after he was defeated by Jim Miller in a submission at UFC 276 on July 2, 2022. In his post-fight interview, he told Joe Rogan, "...I don't love it anymore, Joe. It's hard for me to get up, and this was the longest camp I've had in a long time, and I'm not complaining to anybody, but I just don't love it anymore. I'm going to be a movie star, baby." Cerrone will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on July 6 this year, according to the UFC. He will be a part of the 2023 class among fighters like Jose Aldo, Anderson Silva, and Jens Pulver. Cerrone has also been cast in four films and the Chris Pratt-starring Amazon TV series The Terminal List in 2022. He hasn't hinted at fighting again, but some of his followers appear to think he will. On April 29, he made an appearance at a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship event that featured a match between Mike Perry and Luck Rockhold. Following Perry's TKO victory over Rockhold, Cerrone was challenged to a bare-knuckle boxing contest. It's unknown if Cerrone would be enthusiastic in taking on Perry for the BKFC. Many former UFC fighters who wanted to continue fighting in BKFC have competed in the bare-knuckle league. However, "Cowboy" appears content with his acting work and places a priority on his family.
- Gegard Mousasi eyes Bellator 296 win over Fabian Edwards to earn last title shot vs. Johnny Eblen
Bellator fans are eagerly anticipating the middleweight matchup between Gegard Mousasi and Fabian Edwards at Bellator 296. For Mousasi, this could be one of his last chances to earn another shot at the title, as he eyes retirement after just two more fights. Mousasi has been a dominant force in MMA for years, with an impressive record of 49-8-2. However, his recent loss to Johnny Eblen has put his Bellator title hopes on hold. To earn another shot at Eblen, Mousasi must first get past the tough and talented Fabian Edwards. The bout will be Bellator 296 headliner at Accor Arena in Paris. Edwards, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Charlie Ward, will be no easy task for Mousasi. But the former Bellator and Strikeforce champion is up for the challenge. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Mousasi still has his sights set on another title, and he knows that a win over Edwards is crucial to making that happen: “After this fight, probably a title fight,” Mousasi said. “That’s the only fight that makes sense. That’s my goal: Beat Fabian and fight for the belt one more time because it’s probably gonna be my last chance to fight for the belt.” Mousasi's opponent, Fabian Edwards, is no slouch. The British fighter has a record of 11-2 and has shown time and again that he is a force to be reckoned with in the middleweight division. But Mousasi is not intimidated. He sees this fight as an opportunity to showcase his skills and prove that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level. For Mousasi, the stakes are high. If he wins, he will earn another shot at Johnny Eblen, who dominantly dethroned him at Bellator 282. If he is successful according to his plan, it could spell the end of his Bellator career. “Probably those are gonna be the last two fights, to be honest, but I’m never gonna say anything until the fight happens,” Mousasi added. “But, beat this guy and go for the belt one more time, and that’s gonna decide if I’m gonna retire or not.” Despite the pressure, Mousasi is staying focused and determined. He knows that this could be one of his last chances to prove himself in the cage, and he is determined to make the most of it. For fans of MMA, this is a matchup not to be missed. Two talented fighters, both with something to prove, going head-to-head in what promises to be an explosive fight.
- Amanda Nunes is excited to defend her title against Irene Aldana at UFC 289
The world of mixed martial arts is abuzz with excitement as Amanda Nunes gears up to defend her bantamweight title against Irene Aldana at UFC 289. Fans and pundits alike are eagerly anticipating the matchup, as it promises to be a thrilling display of skill and determination. Nunes, widely considered one of the greatest female fighters of all time, was originally slated to take on Julianna Pena in a highly anticipated trilogy bout. However, fate intervened when Pena was forced to withdraw from the fight due to injury, leaving Nunes without an opponent. Enter Irene Aldana. The Mexican fighter has been making waves in the UFC with her impressive record of 14 wins and 6 losses, including a recent victory over Macy Chiasson via KO in an impressive up-kick to the body. While some may have been surprised by the choice of Aldana as Nunes' new opponent, the Brazilian champion has made it clear that she is thrilled to face a "real opponent." Of course, Nunes continues to be regarded by many as the GOAT, making her the overwhelming favorite going into this showdown. During the recent pre-fight press conference for the event, Nunes stated: “Honestly, this is the original opponent right there,” Nunes said. “… Now we are here with the real opponent. I’m very happy about it. Less heavy, as well, and I’m excited.” As the date of the fight draws closer, the anticipation continues to build. Both Nunes and Aldana are renowned for their striking prowess, with the Brazilian champion holding a slight edge in knockout power. However, Aldana is known for her technical skill and precise striking, making her a formidable opponent for Nunes. “Definitely,” Nunes said. “After what I did with Julianna in our last fight, there’s no question. So now (Aldana is) here, I’m very happy for her, and now we’re going to see each other soon.” “Aldana is very, very tough,” Nunes said. “She has heavy hands. So, she’s technical, and this is going to be so fun. I have heavy hands, as well. I’m well rounded, so you guys have to be excited for this.” Undoubtedly, Julianna Pena shocked everyone by submitting Amanda Nunes in their first fight. But given how lopsided the rematch was, it seems the understandable reason the Brazilian was looking for some fresh meat. Only time will tell who will emerge victorious in this highly anticipated matchup. Will Nunes continue her dominance of the bantamweight division, or will Aldana pull off an upset and claim the title for herself? One thing is for sure – fans of MMA are in for a treat when these two talented fighters step into the octagon at UFC 289.
- Sunny Edwards Tells Brother Charlie: Climb the Rankings for a Shot at the World Title
Title: Sunny Edwards Tells Brother Charlie: Climb the Rankings for a Shot at the World Title IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards has made it clear to his brother Charlie that if he wants a shot at his world title, he must first work his way up the rankings. Despite the fractured relationship between the two, talk of a potential family clash in the ring refuses to fade away. Sunny is set to return to action on June 10 against Andres Campos in his first fight since signing with Matchroom. While acknowledging Charlie's desire for attention, Sunny believes his brother is currently in obscurity and needs to establish himself before earning a shot at the world title. Sibling Rivalry and Clout-Chasing Sunny Edwards, 27, has dismissed Charlie's calls for a fight, accusing him of being a clout-chaser. The former WBC flyweight champion, Charlie, 30, has not competed since December 2021. Sunny believes his brother's recent interest in fighting him stems from a desire for attention, especially after Sunny signed with Charlie's previous promoter. While understanding his brother's need for recognition, Sunny maintains that Charlie must first prove himself by climbing the rankings. No Opportunities in Obscurity Sunny Edwards, currently at the top of his game as a world champion with multiple career prospects and storylines, feels there is little incentive for him to grant his brother a title shot. He emphasizes that Charlie is currently in a state of obscurity, with not enough accomplishments to warrant a fight against the reigning champion. Sunny points out that Charlie never offered him a world title shot when he held the belt himself, and he would have gladly taken it if given the opportunity. Parental Perspectives Sunny admits that their mother, Terry, would strongly oppose the idea of her sons facing each other in the ring. However, their father, Larry, who played a pivotal role in their boxing journeys, has always harbored the hope of seeing his sons fight. Larry believed that Sunny and Charlie were the two best boxers Britain had ever seen, surpassing the likes of the Klitschko brothers and others. With both brothers winning world titles, Larry now believes it is time to give the world what he has always believed— a showcase between the best fighters Britain has produced. A History of Spar Sessions Sunny reflects on their past sparring sessions, recalling that as a teenager, he would go toe-to-toe with Charlie, who is three years older. However, as Sunny improved, Charlie stopped inviting him to spar and has since refused to face him in the ring. While Sunny understands his father's desire for an exhibition fight between the two, he believes that such an opportunity is unlikely to be presented to them. Conclusion Sunny Edwards, the IBF flyweight champion, has informed his brother Charlie that he must climb the rankings if he wishes to challenge for the world title. Sunny remains skeptical of Charlie's motivations, accusing him of seeking attention through clout-chasing. Despite their fractured relationship, the idea of a family showdown continues to circulate. While their mother would oppose such a bout, their father has long hoped to witness an exhibition between the best boxers Britain has produced. However, Sunny does not foresee the opportunity arising, emphasizing the need for Charlie to establish himself before any potential clash can take place.
- Promoter Eddie Hearn Frustrated with Drama Surrounding Wardley vs. Clarke Mandatory Fight
Eddie Hearn, the promoter for British heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley, finds himself frustrated and disappointed with the recent turn of events surrounding the mandatory fight between Wardley and Olympic bronze medal winner Frazer Clarke. The British Boxing Board of Control had ordered Wardley to defend his title against Clarke, but the purse bids, which were scheduled to take place, were abruptly canceled when Clarke's promoter, Boxxer, withdrew him from the bidding process. Hearn believes the situation is a "shambles" and expresses concern for Wardley's career momentum, as he now needs to find a new fight date to stay active. Drama and Conflicting Claims The saga took a dramatic turn when Boxxer CEO Ben Shalom claimed to have offered Wardley a career-high purse to face Clarke on Sky Sports. However, Wardley took to social media to dispute Shalom's statement, revealing that the money offered was actually less than what he earned in his last fight. The conflicting claims added fuel to the frustration surrounding the situation, casting doubt on the intentions and transparency of those involved. Hearn's Frustration Eddie Hearn, known for his straightforward approach to promoting fights, expressed his exasperation with the entire ordeal. Speaking to IFL TV, Hearn labeled the situation as "the biggest shambles" he has ever witnessed. He lamented the interference of mandatory defenses and boxing politics, which can hinder the progress of rising fighters like Wardley. Hearn emphasized his primary concern for Wardley's career, as the unexpected turn of events disrupted their plans. With the fight against Clarke falling through, Hearn now faces the challenge of finding a new opponent and securing a fight date, potentially delaying Wardley's progress. Disappointment for Frazer Clarke While Hearn's frustration is evident, he also expressed sympathy for Frazer Clarke, emphasizing that the cancellation of the fight has negatively impacted the credibility and reputation of the Olympic bronze medalist. Clarke, who was eager to face Wardley, now finds himself in a difficult position. Instead of a high-profile showdown, Clarke is left with a fight against Harry Armstrong at York Hall on June 10, which lacks the same level of attention and significance. Hearn believes that Clarke has been let down and will face ridicule as a result. Allegations of Fear Hearn also criticized Ben Shalom and Boxxer for their alleged reluctance to lose the purse bid to Matchroom and DAZN. Hearn believes that the fear of losing the bid was a significant factor in Shalom's decision-making process. He argued that the fight between Wardley and Clarke had tremendous potential, generating substantial press and creating a classic all-British heavyweight title clash. Hearn accused Shalom of robbing the fans and the fighters of an eagerly anticipated matchup due to his unwillingness to take the risk. Conclusion The drama surrounding the Wardley vs. Clarke mandatory fight has left promoter Eddie Hearn frustrated and disappointed. The cancellation of the purse bids and the conflicting claims regarding the offered purse have added further confusion to an already chaotic situation. With Wardley's career momentum disrupted and Frazer Clarke left with a lesser fight, Hearn believes the fans and the fighters have been deprived of an exciting all-British heavyweight showdown. The incident highlights the challenges and complexities that can arise in the world of boxing promotion, where politics and conflicting interests can derail anticipated matchups.
- Featherweight Nathaniel Wood set to make his UFC Comeback
Nathaniel Wood, a rising featherweight contender in the UFC, has his next fight scheduled for his comeback in 2023. At UFC London in July, Wood will make his featherweight comeback and face the dangerous Andre Fili. Following initial rumors, reports confirmed Wood vs. Fili booking. Wood makes a comeback after postponing his next fight earlier this year due to a self-described "freak accident." Prior to pulling out of the fight due to an injury at UFC 286, he was originally scheduled to fight Lerone Murphy. Following several challenging weight cuts, Wood switched from bantamweight to featherweight last year. Prior to winning over Charles Jourdain at UFC Paris in September, he defeated Charles Rosa in his 145-pound debut. Against the seasoned Fili, the former Cage Warriors bantamweight champion Wood will try to continue his good run at featherweight. In the Octagon, Fili has recorded victories and defeats since making his UFC debut in 2013. In the UFC, he has triumphed over opponents like Dennis Bermudez, Artem Lobov, and Sheymon Moraes. Tom Aspinall and Marcin Tybura's heavyweight fight is the main event of the UFC's return to London. The event is scheduled for July 22 at The O2 Arena.
